Hello, church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week...
CELEBRATING | NEW VOLUNTEERS
We are so thankful for the many people in our church family who use their God-given gifts and talents to serve Jesus and one another. This past Sunday, we had a number of new people who were getting trained in various areas of service, including kids ministry, tear-down, and production. In fact, for the first time ever—this might sound crazy to say—we actually had more volunteers than we needed in kids ministry!! While this probably won't ever be the norm, and there is plenty of need still, we are rejoicing at all of the people God is bringing to serve in so many ways. And, what's most encouraging of all is the heart with which we see people serving: joyful, caring, welcoming, and worshipful. Thank you Sound City volunteers!
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | GOSPEL OF JOHN | JOHN 2:1–12
As we continue going through the gospel of John, we have finished chapter 1 and the "Prologue" section of the book. This week, John begins walking his readers through a series of seven signs, or miracles, that point to the identity of Jesus and his mission. John isn't going to specifically name all the signs, but he helps his readers by specifically identifying this first sign: Jesus turning water into wine. Join us on Sunday as we look at John 2:1-12 and unpack the significant spiritual meaning behind this miraculous sign.
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
OCTOBER 29 | RECOMMENDATION PACKET RESPONSES DUE
A few weeks ago, we announced to our Covenant Members the first nine people to be considered for deaconship at Sound City Bible Church (and one new candidate for the Financial Accountability Team as well). We cannot express enough our thankfulness for these men and women who use their leadership gifts to care for our church family. If you are a Covenant Member and have not yet looked through the recommendation packet that was emailed out, please take a few minutes to do so now (but no later than October 28th — next Saturday). We highly value your input and voice on decisions like these, and we thank you for your investment.
OCTOBER 29 | COVENANT MEMBERSHIP INTEREST MEETING
If you call Sound City Bible Church home, and you’ve not yet joined us as a Covenant Member, then we’d like to invite you to learn more about membership at Sound City. Mark your calendars now for Sunday, October 29, during the 11am service, when we’ll be hosting our next information meeting for those interested in Covenant Membership at Sound City Bible Church. Pastor Shane will gather with those participating at 11am at the tables just up from the coffee area in the foyer. In the mean time, you can review the step-by-step, self-paced, Covenant Membership process by following the link below.
NOVEMBER 5 | REMINDER, DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME"FALL BACK"
Just a reminder that on Sunday, November 5, at 2am, the next daylight savings time shift occurs. This time of year we fall back making it 1am local time instead of 2am. So make sure you set your clocks back an hour before bed if you want to make it to church services at the right time.
NOVEMBER 19 — SAVE THE DATE | FAMILY GATHERING & POTLUCK
Mark your calendars now for Sunday, November 19 for our upcoming Church Family Gathering at Lynnwood High School after our morning services. We’ll start with a potluck at 12:30, and then the meeting portion of our time (back in the theater) will follow, between 1:30pm–3:00pm.
We’ll be providing church and ministry updates, looking at what’s ahead, celebrating all that God’s been doing in and through Sound City Bible Church, and spending some time in prayer as well. While this meeting is primarily for those already committed to the church as Covenant Members and those pursuing membership in the near future, all those who call Sound City home are encouraged to attend.
Last week, we learned about the importance of discipleship from John 1:35-51. If you want to dig into the subject of discipleship a little more, check out this resource from RightNow Media entitled "Holistic Discipleship." In this short, five-minute video from Pastor Zach Lee at the Village Church in Texas, he encourages us to think of discipleship in all facets of life, not just church attendance or a book study. Then when you're done, browse through RightNow Media's vast selection of other discipleship resources, it's free for people who are a part of Sound City!
If you're not currently part of a Community Group, come join us this Sunday for the Connect Group, from 3pm–5pm at the church offices in Lynnwood (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036). The Connect Group is our temporary-by-design Community Group that has as its primary goal: helping all who come to find the best possible long-term Community Group fit. It’s also a place to where you’ll meet new people, learn about biblical community, and experience it as well.
