Happy Tuesday church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week...
CELEBRATING | COMMUNITY GROUP LEADER CHRISTMAS PARTY
Our Community Group leaders are a loving, caring, and hard working bunch, and if you're part of a Community Group, I hope you'll take time this Christmas season to let your leaders know how much they mean to you, and that you'll pause to thank them for their care for you and for spurring you on to growth in Christ this past year. This past Sunday afternoon we hosted a Christmas party for all the Community Group leaders, to do that very thing—to say thank you to them, and to celebrate all the ways they have served our church family throughout the year. We enjoyed a great time of food and fellowship together, shared stories of all the evidences of God's grace we've seen in this ministry over the past year, and had a really fun white elephant gift exchange as well! Join us this week in celebration and thanksgiving for all the ways God is growing the people of Sound City through our Community Groups Ministry. Join us also in praying that God would continue to protect and encourage our existing leaders, and that he would raise up new leaders in the coming year as well.
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | ADVENT WITH FRIENDS — WEEK 2 | PEACE
This Sunday, we'll be in week two of our Advent with Friends sermon series, where we're studying the traditional Advent themes of: hope, peace, love, and joy. This Sunday Pastor Matthias Haeusel, from Cross & Crown Church in Seattle will be joining us and teaching from God's Word on the Advent topic of biblical Peace, out of the Book of 1 Peter. Come join us this Sunday, and in the mean time, read more about our Advent with Friends series, by clicking on the image above.
GIVING TREE OPPORTUNITIES | NOW—DECEMBER 17
Since our beginning, the Vision House Giving Tree has been one of our Christmas traditions at Sound City Bible Church. This year is no different… except for the fact that we’re adding a second giving tree for the Lynnwood CPS Office as well. Our gift cards to Vision House will help support families in need of transitional living assistance, and our gift cards to the Lynnwood Children’s Administration office will supply clothing and other basic needs for kids entering into the Foster Care system—to help ease their transition. You’ll find both trees with giving ornaments available near the Connect Desk each week up through December 17 (which is also the final day to return your ornaments along with their corresponding gift cards). As we remember God’s generosity to us in Christ this Christmas season, let’s make this our most generous Giving Tree year ever as well! All ornaments and gifts cards can be returned to the Connect Desk, to the volunteers stationed by the trees themselves, or at the church offices M-Th (9am–5pm).
ENDING THE YEAR STRONG | YEAR END GIVING
You—the Sound City Bible Church family—have been always been a generous bunch, and through your giving God has allowed us to help those in need within the church family, to support the various ministries of the church, to support new church plants and church planters, and so much more. So, first and foremost, thank you for partnering with us in the gospel work God continues to give us to do. Relatedly, we also wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with easy access to our new giving portal on our website, since it's common for folks to have more questions than usual about giving as we near the end of the year. The link you can always use to access our giving portal is: scbc.do/give. Just click on that link, at left (or the button below), and you'll find information about several different ways you can take care of your year-end giving.
If you have other questions about giving that aren't answered on our giving page, please email Michael Eller at: email@example.com. P.S. We're also looking forward to offering you an even easier way to give, access our sermon library, keep up to date with all the latest church news, and more, all via our new mobile app—which should be ready and available to us very soon. We'll keep you posted!
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
DECEMBER 13 | STUDENT MINISTRY CHRISTMAS PARTY
Sound City Students in grades 6–12, come join us Wednesday, December 13th, from 6:45pm–8:30pm at the church offices as we celebrate Jesus’ birthday together at our Student Ministry Christmas Party! Invite a friend and bring along a pack or two of white socks with you for our annual "sock snowball" fight. After having an amazing "snowball" fight, we'll take time to pray over those in need in our communities who will be receiving these socks. Finally, we're also looking for volunteers to help provide food for the Student Christmas party.
STUDENT MINISTRY | HOLIDAY SCHEDULE UPDATES
During the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, our schedule always looks a little different. Here's the important dates to remember for Student Ministry between now and the end of the year.
- December 13 | Student Ministry Christmas Party (Church Offices, 6:45pm–8:30pm)
- December 20 | No Student Ministry (Christmas Break)
- December 27 | No Student Ministry (Christmas Break)
- January 3, 2018 | First Student Gathering of 2018 (Church Offices, 6:45pm–8:30pm)
CHRISTMAS EVE DAY SERVICES | 8:00AM, 9:45AM, and 11:30AM
As we enter into the holiday season, and our thoughts turn toward Christmas and the birth of Jesus, we wanted to give you some save the date info to help you along in your holiday calendaring. This year is a little different for us, since Christmas Eve itself falls on a Sunday. So instead of the evening services that we usually do on Christmas Eve evening, this year we'll be hosting three morning services on Christmas Eve day, at: 8:00am, 9:45am, and 11:30am. Kids Ministry will be available in all three services for kiddos age four and under only, with the older kids joining in the main services with their parents. Mark your calendars now for Christmas Eve morning, and join us as we celebrate the birth of our Lord together.
DECEMBER 24 | CHILD DEDICATIONS
Several times each year we have the joy of partnering with parents, and our whole church family, in praying for and in dedicating the new babies and younger children of our church to God. To register your child and be part of this special time during any of our three Sunday services on Christmas Eve Day complete the registration form now.
In keeping with our Advent series themes, here's a few additional Advent resources that the team has found helpful, encouraging, and challenging this week.
