Hello, church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week...
CELEBRATING | A SUMMER OF NEW FRIENDSHIPS, FELLOWSHIP, AND FUN
This weekend we'll host the ninth and final of our Summer at Sound City events, our picnic and beach baptisms in Edmonds at Marina Beach Park (see the dedicated announcement below for more on that). When we gather on Sunday at the beach that will be the ninth time Covenant Members and Community Groups have hosted events this summer giving all of us the opportunity to grow in, and live out, our Priority of Relationship value. From hikes, to an Aquasox game, to Fourth of July events, to flag football, a Mariners game, a concert in the park, and more, you all really worked hard to have some fun and to create opportunities for fellowship and friendship this summer. The Scriptures call us to a special intentional kind of relationship and care for one another (e.g. Galatians 6:10), and this week we're celebrating your good work in accomplishing that very thing. Join us this week in prayerful celebration for this evidence of God's grace to us, that he would give such a feast of fellowship and fun together this summer, and that he created such great ways for us to extend the hand of fellowship to so many who don't have relationship with him along the way as well.
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | GIFTED: ONE BODY, MANY PARTS — PT 3
This week, we're in week three of our sermon series entitled Gifted | One Body, Many Parts. We are now ready to turn the corner and begin looking at the specific gifts that are outlined in Scripture. There are five key passages in the New Testament that speak about spiritual gifts. This week, we will focus in on the “ordinary” gifts, those gifts that on the surface appear to be more common and less overtly supernatural. However, as we will see, these gifts are very supernatural and are given to members of the church as a demonstration of the gospel of Jesus. Join us on Sunday as we tackle this important and practical topic!
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
AUGUST 23 | STUDENT MINISTRY GAME NIGHT
Tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 23, our Student Ministry is hosting a game night for students entering into grades 6th-12th this fall. If that's you, come join us at the church offices (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036) from 6:00pm–8:30pm for this night of fun with other Sound City students and leaders. AUGUST 27 | PICNIC & BEACH BAPTISMS | SAVE THE DATE
Make sure and mark your calendars now to save the date for Sunday afternoon on August 27, after our morning services (2pm–4pm) to join us for what always proves to be one of the most special events of our year—our summer picnic and beach baptisms at Marina Beach Park. Until then, you can be deciding what dish-to-share you might want to bring for the picnic, and you can join us in prayer that God would begin to stir in the hearts and minds of those he would have be baptized at this gathering. If you’d like to be baptized at this event, you can register now by clicking the Get Baptized link on our baptism page at: scbc.do/baptism.
SEPTEMBER 3 | KIDS MINISTRY — CLASSROOM PROMOTION DAY
God’s always taken great care of us when it comes to Kids Ministry — greatly growing the number of kids that hear about Jesus week to week, bringing volunteers forward to join the team, and in pointing the way forward for us strategically as he sees fit. Right now we’re in the final planning stages for our next big strategic change in the ministry and we wanted to let you know all about it. The primary change is that we’ll be going to grade-based classrooms for all our school-aged kiddos. We’re really excited about this change for lots of reasons, which is why we wrote a blog post about it. Especially for you parents reading this, make sure to head over to our blog now to read about all the changes, and make sure you understand how they’ll impact you on Sunday mornings, starting September 3.
SEPTEMBER 10 | FALL 'IDENTITY GROUPS' LAUNCH
If you were asked the question "are you struggling?" how would you answer? If you'd say "yes" to that question—regardless of the reasons—then chances are Identity Groups is for you. Being part of an Identity Group means connecting with other Christ followers on a journey of discipleship, recovery, redemption, and healing. More specifically, Identity Groups is a focused eleven-week small group study designed to help us all increasingly believe and live out the reality of our identity in Christ. Our fall groups will meet weekly on Sunday evenings (mostly) from 6pm-8pm. Space is limited so register now at scbc.do/identitygroups if you’re interested in being part this session of Identity Groups.
SEPTEMBER 10 | PRAYING FOR STUDENTS
Each year the students of Sound City enter into a new school year, they're faced with the various challenges and temptations that come with it. So we make it a point every year around this time to invite the students of Sound City Bible Church (those entering grades 6–12) up on stage so that we can cover them in prayer. Please mark your calendars now, and join us on Sunday, September 10, at the start of either service to participate in this special time of prayer for our students. You can help us by letting us know which students plan to participate in each service by emailing email@example.com.
OCTOBER 1 | MEXICO MISSION TRIP INTEREST MEETING
Mark your calendars now for the Sunday, October 1, interest meeting for our 2018 Mission Trip to Mexico. The meeting will take place during the 11am service, and the focus will be our February 11–17 trip to Baja to serve at the mission in Vicente Guerrero. Please prayerfully consider if this is something God may be calling you to pursue, then join us for the October 1 meeting. You can email any questions to Kyle Hackett at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
CONNECT TO SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
One practical way for you to get connected at Sound City is to prayerfully consider signing up to serve God and his people on a regular basis. Serving is one of the very best ways to build new friendships, get involved, and use your God-given gifts and talents to glorify God and serve his people. For more information about available opportunities, and to sign up with a service team or two, go to: scbc.do/serve and click on Sign Up to Serve.
COVENANT MEMBERSHIP AT SOUND CITY
If you call Sound City Bible Church home, and you’ve not yet joined us as a Covenant Member, then we’d like to (1) invite you to learn more about membership at Sound City, and then (2) to start the self-paced membership process. Get started with either one now at: scbc.do/membership.
RightNow Media is a free-to-you discipleship tool that we’re thrilled to be able to provide to all those who call Sound City Bible Church home. Whether on your computer, tablet, or smartphone, your RightNow Media access connects you and your family members to an always-growing, safe, video-based Bible study library, full of teaching resources on a wide variety of topics. This tool is great for finding additional teaching content for your Community Group, for marriage and family devotional times, and for personal study. If you’re new to Sound City and you have yet to sign up and request your own RightNow Media account, you can do so now by heading over to scbc.do/rightnowmedia.
KIDS MINISTRY | SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
Our Kids Ministry has a really good problem—there’s tons of kids that show up every single week to learn about Jesus! But the problem we’re facing as we grow, is not always having enough Kids Ministry Team members to serve all the kids showing up each week. That means we could really use your help. We’d invite you to prayerfully consider if God might be asking you to join this awesome team of volunteers committed to helping all the kids of Sound City to increasingly know, love, and live for Jesus. Please prayerfully consider serving in this important ministry, then when you’re ready, fill out the Kids Ministry application at: scbc.do/kidsapp.
If you're not currently part of a Community Group, come join us this Sunday for the Connect Group, from 3pm–5pm at the church offices in Lynnwood (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036). The Connect Group is our temporary-by-design Community Group that has as its primary goal: helping all who come to find the best possible long-term Community Group fit. It’s also a place to where you’ll meet new people, learn about biblical community, and experience it as well. Register now at: scbc.do/connectgroup and then join us this Sunday. If you have questions, please email them to: email@example.com.
This week our Featured Resource is a video that has been finding it's way around social media lately. It gives us a glimpse that we may be more diverse than we really think. Take a look below as people find out some surprising results and have a change of heart about the idea of diversity.
The above video contains use of a curse word. If you are sensitive to language or would prefer those around you do not hear it, please feel free to skip this resource.
