Happy New Year, and Happy Birthday church family! What a joy to enter into 2018 together, and to celebrate our third birthday as a church together! Here’s what you need to know for this week Sound City.
CELEBRATING | NEW YEARS EVE DAY, WORSHIP CELEBRATION
In our culture, New Year’s Eve is typically a time of celebration, partying, and looking forward with hope to the year to come. For Christians, we always have good reason to celebrate, because we have a resurrected Savior! This week we're celebrating the joy-filled extended time of worship, prayer, and singing we shared together this past Sunday—on New Years Eve. We read lots of Scripture together, we enjoyed the Lord's Supper together, we corporately confessed our sin and repented together, and we looked forward with steadfast hope to what God will do in and through us in 2018. Join us in thanksgiving and prayer to God this week for this special time God gave us on New Years Eve day to share together. Join us in praising him for this evidence of God's grace to us as we enter into the new year!
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
JANUARY 3 | FIRST WEDNESDAY STUDENT MINISTRY GATHERING OF 2018
We've missed you students! During the holiday season, our schedule always looks a little different, so our regular Wednesday gatherings have been on 'pause'. But now that our break has past we're excited to gather back together this Wednesday night, January 3, at 6:45pm–8:30pm. If you're a 6th-12th grader—even if you've never been part of the Student Ministry before—this night is for you, and we hope you'll join us!
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | LOOKING BACK, LOOKING AHEAD
In Psalm 75:1 God's Word declares, "We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We recount your wondrous deeds.” Join us this Sunday as we rejoice of God’s amazing grace to us, and as we celebrate our third birthday as a church together. We'll look back at all that God has done in our midst this past year, and we'll be looking in Colossians 1 at the idea of bearing fruit for the kingdom of God as we look toward 2018 as well. Please join us for this joyful and important Sunday gathering!
THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 7 | HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH!
On January 7, we celebrate our third birthday as a church! In addition to the special service we'll be hosting (see 'This Sunday's Sermon' above), make sure and stop by and grab a third birthday cupcake or two in celebration of all that God's done in and through us over the past three years!
THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 7 | CONNECT GROUP 2018 KICKOFF
If you're not currently part of a Community Group, come join us Sunday, January 7, for the 2018 kickoff of our Connect Group! It will be from 3pm–5pm at our church offices in Lynnwood. The Connect Group is our temporary-by-design Community Group that has as its primary goal: helping all who come to find the best possible long-term Community Group fit. It’s also a place to where you’ll meet new people, learn about biblical community, and experience it as well.
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
JANUARY 21 | GUEST PREACHER, RABBI MATT ROSENBERG
On Sunday, January 21, we are excited to welcome Rabbi Matt Rosenberg from Restoration Messianic Synagogue in Seattle. Originally from New York, Matt moved to Seattle in 2010 along with his wife, Laura, and three children. In addition to leading Restoration, Matt is on the board of Jewish Voice Ministries and is the northwest director of International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues. Join us on the 21 as Rabbi Matt jumps into our sermon series on the Gospel of John with a teaching on John 5:1–18 where Jesus heals the man at the Pool of Siloam.
Starting February 1 | Financial Stewardship Class
Staring February 1, we’ll be hosting a financial stewardship class called, Financial Peace University (FPU). This class teaches sound biblical principles on topics ranging from: savings, tithing, managing debt, budgeting, mortgages, insurance, and more, and the curriculum comes from well known expert in the field, Dave Ramsey. The nine-week class will be facilitated by Sound City Covenant Members, at our church offices, from 6:30pm–8:30pm each Thursday.
"Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path," (Psalm 119:105). If you've been a Christian for long, it's pretty likely that a new year often brings thoughts of how we might each grow in the spiritual discipline of Bible study in the year to come. Therefore, we thought a helpful resource for the church family to have access to in these first days of January 2018 would a curated list of potential Bible reading plans that you could use as we start the year together.
May we all grow in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 3:18) this year, as we commit to growing in our respective relationships with Jesus through increased time in his Word in 2018. Click the image above for a list of reading plans for this new year.
KIDS MINISTRY | SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
Our Kids Ministry has a really good problem—there’s tons of kids that show up every single week to learn about Jesus! But the problem we’re facing as we grow, is not always having enough Kids Ministry Team members to serve all the kids showing up each week. That means we could really use your help. We’d invite you to prayerfully consider if God might be asking you to join this awesome team of volunteers committed to helping all the kids of Sound City to increasingly know, love, and live for Jesus. Please prayerfully consider serving in this important ministry, then when you’re ready, fill out the Kids Ministry application.
