Hey church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week Sound City.
CELEBRATING | THREE YEARS OF SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
This past Sunday marked our three-year birthday as Sound City Bible Church, and all those in attendance got to joyfully celebrate that evidence of God's grace together! In the sermon we looked back on our first three years together at where God’s taken us during this time, and we were moved to humility and gratitude for all the ways God has grown and blessed us during this time. But our third birthday also means we’re entering our fourth year together too. So we spent time talking about the good places God seems to be leading us in 2018 and beyond as well. Join us this week with prayers of thanksgiving and praise for where we’ve been, and with hopeful prayers for God’s continued provision, guidance, and care for this church family as we enter year four together!
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | JOHN 4:43–54
This Sunday, we pick back up our series in the Gospel of John by looking at John 4:43–54. In this passage, Jesus interacts with a royal official whose son is sick and near the point of death. Jesus heals the official’s son, but he also uses this as an opportunity to teach us about two very different types of faith: the faith that only believes because it can see, versus the faith that believes in order to see God and his kingdom. Read ahead, pray, and join us on Sunday as we look at this important passage about true faith in Jesus.
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
JANUARY 21 | GUEST PREACHER, RABBI MATT ROSENBERG
On Sunday, January 21, we are excited to welcome Rabbi Matt Rosenberg from Restoration Messianic Synagogue in Seattle. Originally from New York, Matt moved to Seattle in 2010 along with his wife, Laura, and three children. In addition to leading Restoration, Matt is on the board of Jewish Voice Ministries and is the northwest director of International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues. Join us on the 21 as Rabbi Matt jumps into our sermon series on the Gospel of John with a teaching on John 5:1–18 where Jesus heals the man at the Pool of Siloam.
Starting February 1 | Financial Stewardship Class
Staring February 1, we’ll be hosting a financial stewardship class called, Financial Peace University (FPU). This class teaches sound biblical principles on topics ranging from: savings, tithing, managing debt, budgeting, mortgages, insurance, and more, and the curriculum comes from well known expert in the field, Dave Ramsey. The nine-week class will be facilitated by Sound City Covenant Members, at our church offices, from 6:30pm–8:30pm each Thursday.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3 | STUDENT MINISTRY, MOVIE NIGHT
Calling all 6th-12th graders, we're excited to invite you to join us at the church offices from 6:00pm-8:30pm for a fun movie night. Pizza and drinks will be provided, please send your student(s) with $5 to help us cover the cost. *Note: If your student has food allergies, please send them with their own food and then skip the $5 cost.
As we move out of the Advent, Christmas, and New Years season, and shift back into our series in the Book of John, we thought it appropriate to collectively dust off the holiday cobwebs and get reacquainted with John's gospel. In that vein, this week's featured resource is a summary video from our friends at The Bible Project that unpacks the background and first sections of the Book of John in a really creative and helpful way. Take a few minutes to watch it, and we'll see you Sunday as we dive back into John chapter four together. See you Sunday!
If you're not currently part of a Community Group, come join us this Sunday for the Connect Group, from 3pm–5pm at the church offices in Lynnwood. The Connect Group is our temporary-by-design Community Group that has as its primary goal: helping all who come to find the best possible long-term Community Group fit. It’s also a place to where you’ll meet new people, learn about biblical community, and experience it as well.
