Hey church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week at Sound City.
CELEBRATING | BAPTISMS AT SOUND CITY
Throughout all of Scripture we witness the biblical truth that God breathes new life into dead things. One of the ways we see this truth lived out today is through baptism, and that's what we're celebrating this week! In Romans 6:3-4 the Apostle Paul explains that in baptism God's people identify with Jesus: we go under the waters of judgement to identify with his death, and we come up from the water to identify with his new life. This past Sunday we had the joyful privilege of witnessing a memorial of this good and saving work of God in the lives of three Christians, through believers baptism. Join us in prayer and thanksgiving for God's prompting in each one of them to step forward in this act of faith and obedience. Also join us this week in thanking Covenant Members, Julian and Catherine Colebank, who graciously opened their home to host this baptism event.
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | JOHN 6:41–59 | WHO CAN COME TO JESUS?
This Sunday, we are excited to welcome Pastor Steve Patton from Reunion Seattle, a new church plant in south Seattle. Steve will be teaching from John 6:41–59. In these verses, Jesus calls people to believe in him by eating his flesh and drinking his blood. If these words sound disturbing to us, imagine how challenging they must have sounded to Jesus’ first hearers! Join us as we look at this important passage, and as we welcome Pastor Steve to teach us.
THIS WEEKEND | STUDENT WINTER RETREAT
This weekend, the Sound City Students will be enjoying lots of fresh snow while spending time up in the mountains at our first ever Winter Retreat. Please join us in praying for the students and leaders alike, as they spend lots of time outdoors enjoying God's beautiful creation, and as they focus on learning how to better study God's Word for themselves during their teaching times. Additionally, please pray for safe travels for the leaders and students as well.
NOW—MARCH 11 | COVENANT MEMBER RE-COMMITMENT
You've heard us say, we view Covenant Membership as more than just a 'one and done' kind of thing. Rather, we see membership as a living and breathing commitment to grow as disciples, and it's with that in mind that we ask every Covenant Member of Sound City to pause once each year to prayerfully review and then recommit to the faith and discipleship commitments we all made when we first became Covenant Members of Sound City Bible Church.
If you're a Covenant Member, last Sunday—February 25—you received an email containing instructions and a link for completing your annual Covenant Member Re-Commitment. A sincere 'thank you!' to the many of you who have already re-considered your faith commitments as part of the Sound City family, and completed your re-commitment forms. If you haven't yet completed your re-commitment form, please check your email for the link and then complete your form ASAP. You'll have one more week to complete it, but please take a few minutes now to do so if possible. Thank you in advance for your intentionality and commitment to living as Christ's disciples as part of the Sound City Bible Church family.
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
MARCH 11 | INTERESTED IN MEMBERSHIP?
God calls his people to be intentionally committed to a local body of fellow Christ followers, for God's glory and their good. If you call Sound City Bible Church home, and you’ve not yet joined us as a Covenant Member, then we’d like to invite you to join us to learn more about membership at Sound City. Mark your calendars now for Sunday, March 11, during the 11am service, when we’ll be hosting our next information meeting for those interested in Covenant Membership at Sound City Bible Church. Pastor Shane will gather with those participating at 11am at the tables just up from the coffee area in the foyer. In the mean time, you can review the step-by-step, self-paced, Covenant Membership process by following the link below.
This past Sunday, Pastor Aaron preached out of John 6:26–40, where Jesus proclaims he is the bread of life. Themes touched on during the sermon included questions about free will, the fallacy of works-based salvation, and then the assurance of our grace-based eternal salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Click the image on the left below for a brief excerpt from Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem, which explores the misunderstandings of the doctrines of predestination and election. Then, enjoy a sermon from Tim Keller that addresses the related question, Does God control everything?
