Hello, church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week...
CELEBRATING | MARINERS GAME OUTREACH
Friday night we hosted our second annual Sound City Mariners night. We challenged ourselves as a church to invite our unchurched friends and neighbors to the game, and offered everyone who did free tickets. This week—despite the narrow 6-5 Mariners loss—we’re celebrating the joy of 200 or so of us fellowshipping together at the game, and even more so we’re celebrating the great job you did in responding to God’s prompting in inviting the unchurched in your spheres of influence into friendship with God’s people.
As a church, one of our values is every member a missionary, so thank you to all of you who lived that out by inviting those far from God to join us at the game. What an evidence of God’s grace to us! Please join us in prayer this week that a great many of the guests we invited to the game would now join us for a church service as well, and even more so, that they would enter into a saving relationship with Jesus.
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | GIFTED: ONE BODY, MANY PARTS — PART 2
This week, we're in part two of our new sermon series entitled Gifted | One Body, Many Parts. This Sunday we will look at the themes of unity and diversity from 1 Corinthians 12:12–31. The Apostle Paul uses the metaphor of a body with many parts as he teaches on the subject of spiritual gifts. In this passage, we can see that there is great blessing in having a diversity of gifts, but that diversity also presents many challenges. Finally, this passage also shows us that our only hope for true unity in our diversity is when it flows out of the gospel of Jesus. Join us on Sunday as we explore these topics and more in this important passage!
AUGUST 20 | OUTREACH PARTNERSHIPS TEAM | INTEREST MEETING
We’re building a new team at Sound City, and we want to invite you to hear more about it. If you’re passionate about helping to identify outreach and service opportunities for the people of Sound City to engage in, then please plan to attend this interest meeting this Sunday, August 20, during the 11am service. Kelsie Braceros is leading this effort, and you can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP for the meeting or to ask any questions you might have about this exciting new ministry team.
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
AUGUST 23 | STUDENT MINISTRY GAME NIGHT
Next Wednesday night, August 23, our Student Ministry is hosting a game night for students entering into grades 6th-12th this fall. If that's you, come join us at the church offices (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036) from 6:00pm–8:30pm for this night of fun with other students and ministry leaders. AUGUST 27 | PICNIC & BEACH BAPTISMS | SAVE THE DATE
Make sure and mark your calendars now to save the date for Sunday afternoon on August 27, after our morning services (2pm–4pm) to join us for what always proves to be one of the most special events of our year—our summer picnic and beach baptisms at Marina Beach Park. Until then, you can be deciding what dish-to-share you might want to bring for the picnic, and you can join us in prayer that God would begin to stir in the hearts and minds of those he would have be baptized at this gathering. If you’d like to be baptized at this event, you can register now by clicking the Get Baptized link on our baptism page at: scbc.do/baptism.
SEPTEMBER 3 | KIDS MINISTRY — CLASSROOM PROMOTION DAY
God’s always taken great care of us when it comes to Kids Ministry — greatly growing the number of kids that hear about Jesus week to week, bringing volunteers forward to join the team, and in pointing the way forward for us strategically as he sees fit. Right now we’re in the final planning stages for our next big strategic change in the ministry and we wanted to let you know all about it. The primary change is that we’ll be going to grade-based classrooms for all our school-aged kiddos. We’re really excited about this change for lots of reasons, which is why we wrote a blog post about it. Especially for you parents reading this, make sure to head over to our blog now to read about all the changes, and make sure you understand how they’ll impact you on Sunday mornings, starting September 3.
SEPTEMBER 10 | FALL 'IDENTITY GROUPS' LAUNCH
If you were asked the question "are you struggling?" how would you answer? If you'd say "yes" to that question—regardless of the reasons—then chances are Identity Groups is for you. Being part of an Identity Group means connecting with other Christ followers on a journey of discipleship, recovery, redemption, and healing. More specifically, Identity Groups is a focused eleven-week small group study designed to help us all increasingly believe and live out the reality of our identity in Christ. Our fall groups will meet weekly on Sunday evenings (mostly) from 6pm-8pm. Space is limited so register now at scbc.do/identitygroups if you’re interested in being part this session of Identity Groups.
SEPTEMBER 10 | PRAYING FOR STUDENTS
Each year the students of Sound City enter into a new school year, they're faced with the various challenges and temptations that come with it. So we make it a point every year around this time to invite the students of Sound City Bible Church (those entering grades 6–12) up on stage so that we can cover them in prayer. Please mark your calendars now, and join us on Sunday, September 10, at the start of either service to participate in this special time of prayer for our students. You can help us by letting us know which students plan to participate in each service by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
OCTOBER 1 | MEXICO MISSION TRIP INTEREST MEETING
Mark your calendars now for the Sunday, October 1, interest meeting for our 2018 Mission Trip to Mexico. The meeting will take place during the 11am service, and the focus will be our February 11–17 trip to Baja to serve at the mission in Vicente Guerrero. Please prayerfully consider if this is something God may be calling you to pursue, then join us for the October 1 meeting. You can email any questions to Kyle Hackett at: email@example.com.

KIDS MINISTRY | SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
Our Kids Ministry has a really good problem—there’s tons of kids that show up every single week to learn about Jesus! But the problem we’re facing as we grow, is not always having enough Kids Ministry Team members to serve all the kids showing up each week. That means we could really use your help. We’d invite you to prayerfully consider if God might be asking you to join this awesome team of volunteers committed to helping all the kids of Sound City to increasingly know, love, and live for Jesus. Please prayerfully consider serving in this important ministry, then when you’re ready, fill out the Kids Ministry application at: scbc.do/kidsapp.
If you're not currently part of a Community Group, come join us this Sunday for the Connect Group, from 3pm–5pm at the church offices in Lynnwood (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036). The Connect Group is our temporary-by-design Community Group that has as its primary goal: helping all who come to find the best possible long-term Community Group fit. It’s also a place to where you’ll meet new people, learn about biblical community, and experience it as well. Register now at: scbc.do/connectgroup and then join us this Sunday. If you have questions, please email them to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
CONNECT TO SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
One practical way for you to get connected at Sound City is to prayerfully consider signing up to serve God and his people on a regular basis. Serving is one of the very best ways to build new friendships, get involved, and use your God-given gifts and talents to glorify God and serve his people. For more information about available opportunities, and to sign up with a service team or two, go to: scbc.do/serve and click on Sign Up to Serve.
Last week we added this new section to the At A Glance Newsletter, where we'll feature a relevant and noteworthy resource each week, recommended by an elder or staff member for your consideration.
This week our Featured Resource is a book by pastor and author Sam Storms called The Beginner's Guide to Spiritual Gifts. Sam is a staff and elder favorite and we often find ourselves recommending his writings and sermons to others. Featuring Sam's book on spiritual gifts as this week's Featured Resource is timely for us, of course, because that topic is the focus of our current sermon series, entitled Gifted | One Body, Many Parts.
