Hello, church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week...

CELEBRATING | PARTNERS IN THE GOSPEL

This week we’re celebrating the wrapping up of our three-week series called, Partners in the Gospel. What a joy to have been able to have these pastors come and serve our church family. In week one, Pastor David Martin came and led us through a message called The Witness, and helped us to remember the call that Acts 1:8 puts on each one us in sharing the good news of Jesus as his witnesses.

In week two, Pastor Phil McCallum led us through a message called Come Together about Christian unity, and what the Bible has to say about the relationships we have with one another, not just as individuals, but amongst all of the parts (i.e. churches) that make up the body of Christ. Then this past Sunday, in the third and final installment of this series, Pastor Ryan Williams preached a sermon entitled Foolish Isolation, talking about the significant dangers associated with the cultural trend towards isolation, and about the Bible’s known antidote to this social epidemic—biblical community. This week we’re celebrating these partnerships and others that God, in his grace to us, has continued to bring our way. Please join us this week in thanksgiving, celebration, and prayer for these men, and the truths they’ve taught us from God’s Word in this short series. Pray also that God would continue to bring us into relationship with people and organizations who would help us be all he’s called us to be, and that he’d likewise use us to be a blessing to others in the gospel work that he’s called them to complete as well.

THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH

THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | GIFTED: ONE BODY, MANY PARTS — PART 1

This week, we are excited to launch into a new sermon series entitled Gifted | One Body, Many Parts. The Bible, when talking about the church, often uses the metaphor of a body—often speaking of Christ as the head, and us as individual members of that body. Our hope and prayer throughout this series is that everybody who calls Sound City Bible Church home will learn more and grow in understanding their unique gifts, wiring, and how God has created them to serve and bring him glory. This Sunday we’ll begin the series by looking at Ephesians 4:4–16 and learning about the Holy Spirit, the giver of all spiritual gifts. Join us on Sunday as we kick off this important and exciting series!

TODAY, AUGUST 8 | EVERETT AQUASOX GAME

Today, August 8, gather with your community group, invite some other friends and neighbors and join us for the Everett Aquasox game — our local minor league baseball team (at Everett Memorial Stadium - 3900 Broadway, Everett, WA 98201). Colin and Jonika Hash’s Community Group will be hosting, and will meet up with you in the general admissions section by first base. First pitch is at 7:05pm. Tickets are $9 and can be purchased at the stadium. Jonika Hash will be your point of contact for this event, so send your RSVPs and questions directly to her at: jonika@u.washington.edu.

NOW–AUGUST 13 | EMPTY FUNDRAISER BOTTLE COLLECTION

Between Mother’s Day and Father’s day this year, you all raised a total of $5,877.46 for the Christian-run Pregnancy Resource Center in Everett, which was more than any other church partnering with the PRC this year! What an amazing gift to our church that God would use us to help those in need in this way. However, to keep costs down for future fundraisers, the PRC is asking for our help in returning all the unfilled/unreturned bottles that are still sitting on our kitchen tables, in the back seats of our cars, or on the desks of our home offices (among many other potential places, where things like this tend to gather). So please return all your empty fundraiser bottles this week so they can be reused in future fundraisers. You can drop them off at the church offices in Lynnwood (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036) this week Monday–Thursday between 9am–5pm, or this Sunday (8/13) at the Connect Desk. Thanks in advance for helping us get all those empty bottles returned to the PRC ASAP!

THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 11 | MARINERS GAME & OUTREACH

Would you like free tickets to the Mariners game this Friday? We’ve got some for you! Here’s the catch: to get free tickets, you must bring someone who’s not currently involved in a church. This is a great opportunity for you as a church member to practice hospitality and invitation. So reach out to those whom God has put on your heart and invite them to join you and your church family for the game. First pitch is at 7:10pm. Reserve your tickets now at scbc.do/mariners.

THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 12 | FLAG FOOTBALL AND FAMILY PICNIC

Get your sneakers out and bring your family out to a day of flag football and a picnic lunch. The Bradshaw and Roberts Community Group will be hosting this event on August 12, from 3pm–9pm at Meadowdale Neighborhood Park. Sound City will provide burgers and hotdogs, but the rest of the food will be potluck style so please bring something to share. Brandon and Rachel Bradshaw will be your point of contact for this event so please email your RSVPs and any questions directly to Rachel at: racheljoy16@hotmail.com (please include your name and the number of those interested in playing football so that we can have an adequate number of flags).

THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 12 | A GALATIANS 6:10 SERVICE OPPORTUNITY

In Galatians 6:10, we’re told to love and do good to all people especially those within the Church family. That means there’s a special kind of love and care that we’re to offer each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. Doug & Linda Freyberg’s Community Group is seeking to do this very thing, and they’re asking for your help — especially if you have experience in construction, building projects, carpentry, roofing, etc. Through a connection within their Community Group, they’ve become aware of a pastor of a small local church in our area whose home (most especially their roof) is in a significant state of disrepair. This situation has come about because of series of heart-breaking family circumstances that have also left them with few resources (physical and financial) to help them repair their roof and home before the rain and cold weather return. So Pastor Doug’s Community Group is answering this call and inviting you to join them in this Galatians 6:10 type service opportunity, on Saturday, August 12. Email Pastor Doug at: doug@soundcitybiblechurch.com for details, to RSVP, and/or to ask any questions you might have.

COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS

AUGUST 20 | OUTREACH PARTNERSHIPS TEAM | INTEREST MEETING

We’re building a new team at Sound City, and we want to invite you to hear more about it. If you’re passionate about helping to identify outreach and service opportunities for the people of Sound City to engage in, then please plan to attend this interest meeting, on August 20 during the 11am service. Kelsie Braceros is leading this effort, and you can email her at  kelmarieb@gmail.com to RSVP for the meeting or to ask any questions you might have about this exciting new ministry team.

AUGUST 27 | PICNIC & BEACH BAPTISMS | SAVE THE DATE

Make sure and mark your calendars now to save the date for Sunday afternoon on August 27, after our morning services (2pm–4pm) to join us for what always proves to be one of the most special events of our year—our summer picnic and beach baptisms at Marina Beach Park. Until then, you can be deciding what dish-to-share you might want to bring for the picnic, and you can join us in prayer that God would begin to stir in the hearts and minds of those he would have be baptized at this gathering. If you’d like to be baptized at this event, you can register now by clicking the Get Baptized link on our baptism page at: scbc.do/baptism.

SEPTEMBER 3 | KIDS MINISTRY — CLASSROOM PROMOTION DAY

God’s always taken great care of us when it comes to Kids Ministry — greatly growing the number of kids that hear about Jesus week to week, bringing volunteers forward to join the team, and in pointing the way forward for us strategically as he sees fit. Right now we’re in the final planning stages for our next big strategic change in the ministry and we wanted to let you know all about it. The primary change is that we’ll be going to grade-based classrooms for all our school-aged kiddos. We’re really excited about this change for lots of reasons, which is why we wrote a blog post about it. Especially for you parents reading this, make sure to head over to our blog now to read about all the changes, and make sure you understand how they’ll impact you on Sunday mornings, starting September 3.

KIDS MINISTRY | SERVING OPPORTUNITIES

Our Kids Ministry has a really good problem—there’s tons of kids that show up every single week to learn about Jesus! But the problem we’re facing as we grow, is not always having enough Kids Ministry Team members to serve all the kids showing up each week. That means we could really use your help. We’d invite you to prayerfully consider if God might be asking you to join this awesome team of volunteers committed to helping all the kids of Sound City to increasingly know, love, and live for Jesus. FEATURED RESOURCE

Starting today, we're adding this new section to the At A Glance Newsletter. Each week in the Featured Resource section, we'll feature a relevant and noteworthy resource, recommended by an elder or staff member for your consideration.

This week our Featured Resource is a post written by a pastor in Nashville, Tennessee, named Scott Sauls. The post is entitled, Has God Left The Suburbs, and it highlights some of the same issues and questions we wrestle with actively in the North Puget Sound area.
