Hello, church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week...
CELEBRATING | BIBLICAL COMMUNITY
This past Sunday, Myeong shared with the church that we had our first new Community Group launching out from our Connect Group (our temporary group, for those looking to join a Community Group). The truth is, while that evidence of God's grace is reason enough to celebrate, we've got lots of other good reasons to celebrate what God is doing in the Community Groups ministry as well. For example, we've had 42 unique people come in and out of our Connect Group since it started three months ago. We've placed 21 people in traditional groups over that same period of time. And, in the next several weeks, as a result of group multiplication that's been happening recently, we have an additional six people stepping into group leader and group co-leader roles. Join us this week in prayerful celebration for all the work God's been doing through our Community Groups ministry and through the intentional discipleship relationships that God is creating for us within the context of biblical community.
Not yet in a group? Email Myeong to find out more about Connect Group and other Community Group openings that might work for you and your family.
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
SEPTEMBER 6, @6PM | STUDENT MINISTRY ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Calling all of our 6th–12th graders! You're invited to join us at the North Lynnwood Neighborhood Park (18510 44th Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98037) from 6:00pm–8:30pm tomorrow night for ice cream, fellowship, and fun (popsicles will be available for our dairy-free students). If you plan to join us, please note there is ACTION REQUIRED! Please complete our Activity Release Form before attending. See you tomorrow night students!
SEPTEMBER 10 | PRAYING FOR SOUND CITY STUDENTS
Each year the students of Sound City enter into a new school year, they're faced with the various challenges and temptations that come with it. So we make it a point every year around this time to invite the students of Sound City Bible Church (those entering grades 6–12) up on stage so that we can cover them in prayer. Please mark your calendars now, and join us on Sunday, September 10, at the start of either service to participate in this special time of prayer for our students. You can help us by letting us know which students plan to participate in each service by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | GIFTED: ONE BODY, MANY PARTS — PT 5
This week, we're in week five of our sermon series, Gifted | One Body, Many Parts. This Sunday we will look at the "so what" or "now what" side of the spiritual gifts equation. Now that we've learned some of what the Bible has to say about the various gifts themselves, the next step is for us to investigate what the Bible has to say about using these gifts that the Scriptures speak of. Join us on Sunday as we dig into what God's Word says about the relationship between knowing your gifts and putting them to good use!
THIS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 | FALL 'IDENTITY GROUPS' LAUNCH
It's 'last chance time' to get registered for this one. If you'd answer with an enthusiastic "YES" to the question "are you struggling?" then now is the time for you to sign up and take one of the remaining few spots available for the fall run of our Identity Groups study. As we've said previously, being part of an Identity Group means connecting with other Christ followers on a journey of discipleship, recovery, redemption, and healing. More specifically, Identity Groups is a focused eleven-week small group study designed to help us all increasingly believe and live out the reality of our identity in Christ. Our fall groups will meet weekly on Sunday evenings from 6pm-8pm (most weeks). Time and space are running out, so now is the time to get registered!
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
SEPTEMBER 20 | STUDENT MINISTRY FALL KICKOFF
It's that time of year again! As local schools get back into their fall rhythms, so do we, with our weekly Wednesday night Student Ministry gatherings. All students going into grades 6-12 are invited to join us at the church offices, on Wednesday nights, starting September 20 and continuing throughout the school year, from 6:45pm–8:30pm each week.
SEPTEMBER 24 | ONE MORE "PARTNER IN THE GOSPEL"
This summer we enjoyed the rich benefit of teachings from several pastors who are good friends to Sound City, whom we are honored to call Partners in the Gospel. On September 24, in that same spirit, we're inviting Pastor Dave Harvey, another good friend and partner in the gospel, to come and teach us from God's Word. Dave is not only Teaching Pastor at Summit Church in Florida, but he's also the Executive Director of the Sojourn Network, the church-planting and healthy churches network of which Sound City is now a part. Join us in praying for our friend in advance of his time with us later next month.
OCTOBER 1 | MEXICO MISSION TRIP INTEREST MEETING | SAVE THE DATE
Mark your calendars now for the Sunday, October 1, interest meeting for our 2018 Mission Trip to Mexico. The meeting will take place during the 11am service, and the focus will be our February 11–17 trip to Baja to serve at the mission in Vicente Guerrero. Please prayerfully consider if this is something God may be calling you to pursue, then join us for the October 1 meeting. No registration needed on this one, just plan to join us on October 1 during the 11am service.
OCTOBER 1 | GOSPEL CONVERSATIONS WITH KIDS | SAVE THE DATE
Back in July we hosted this year's first evangelism training event, and now plans are in place for our next equipping event. On Sunday, October 1, from 3pm–5pm at the church offices (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036) we'll be hosting this training event called, Gospel Conversations with Kids — led by our friend Deborah Rowe. As most of you know, evangelism is a significant area of focus for us this year — and this training is one more step in that direction. Save the date, and plan to come and join us to get better equipped to share Jesus with the kids in your life, and pretty much anyone else as well.
This week our Featured Resource is a two-part blog post, from our friend Dave Harvey (Sojourn Network), related to this past Sunday's discussion of the extraordinary spiritual gifts. The two-part post is entitled, Are we 'Accidental' Continuationists? The Drift from True Spirituality. You can find both parts by clicking the appropriate link here:
KIDS MINISTRY | SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
Our Kids Ministry has a really good problem—there’s tons of kids that show up every single week to learn about Jesus! But the problem we’re facing as we grow, is not always having enough Kids Ministry Team members to serve all the kids showing up each week. That means we could really use your help. We’d invite you to prayerfully consider if God might be asking you to join this awesome team of volunteers committed to helping all the kids of Sound City to increasingly know, love, and live for Jesus. Please prayerfully consider serving in this important ministry, then when you’re ready, fill out the Kids Ministry application.
If you're not currently part of a Community Group, come join us this Sunday for the Connect Group, from 3pm–5pm at the church offices in Lynnwood (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036). The Connect Group is our temporary-by-design Community Group that has as its primary goal: helping all who come to find the best possible long-term Community Group fit. It’s also a place to where you’ll meet new people, learn about biblical community, and experience it as well.
CONNECT TO SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
One practical way for you to get connected at Sound City is to prayerfully consider signing up to serve God and his people on a regular basis. Serving is one of the very best ways to build new friendships, get involved, and use your God-given gifts and talents to glorify God and serve his people. For more information about available opportunities, and to sign up with a service team or two, go to: scbc.do/serve and click on Sign Up to Serve.
