Hello, church family! Here’s what you need to know for this week...
CELEBRATING | IDENTITY GROUPS LAUNCH
This past Sunday evening at the church offices nineteen of us showed up for the kickoff of the latest round of our Identity Groups study. This week we're expectantly celebrating all that God is going to do in and through the participants of this eleven-week journey of discipleship, recovery, redemption, healing, and growth. Join us in praying for the new Christ-centered friendships that are being built right now as the groups get started, and that God will protect and richly bless their weekly times together. Pray also that all in attendance would come to better know and live out their identity in Christ as a result of this study.
THIS WEEK AT SOUND CITY BIBLE CHURCH
KNOW YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS | SPIRITUAL GIFTS ASSESSMENT
This past Sunday, Pastor Shane built the biblical case that part of the purpose for which God made each one of us is that we would know and use our spiritual gifts for good works in service to God and his people. Therefore, we'd love to encourage every single one of you who calls Sound City Bible Church home to complete our spiritual gifts assessment before the end of our Gifted | One Body, Many Parts series (which is this Sunday). If you haven't done so already, please head over now to the webpage for instructions for completing the free online assessment.
THIS SUNDAY’S SERMON | GIFTED: ONE BODY, MANY PARTS — PT 6
For the last five weeks, we have looked intently at the subject of spiritual gifts, their impact in the church, and their use in our lives through our Gifted | One Body, Many Parts series. This Sunday will be our sixth and final sermon in this series, and we’ll be "zooming out” from the individual perspective to look at spiritual gifts in the corporate sense. Specifically, we’ll be studying 1 Corinthians 14 where we’ll see a series of contrasts as to what a church looks like when the gifts are used rightly and when they’re used wrongly. So read 1 Corinthians 14 this week to get a jump on things, and then make sure and join us this Sunday for our series conclusion!
COMING SOON | MARK YOUR CALENDARS
SEPTEMBER 20 | STUDENT MINISTRY FALL KICKOFF
It's that time of year again! As local schools get back into their fall rhythms, so do we, with our weekly Wednesday night Student Ministry gatherings. All students going into grades 6-12 are invited to join us at the church offices, on Wednesday nights, starting September 20 and continuing throughout the school year, from 6:45pm–8:30pm each week.
SEPTEMBER 24 | ONE MORE "PARTNER IN THE GOSPEL"
This summer we enjoyed the rich benefit of teachings from several pastors who are good friends to Sound City, whom we are honored to call Partners in the Gospel. On September 24, in that same spirit, we're inviting Pastor Dave Harvey, another good friend and partner in the gospel, to come and teach us from God's Word. Dave is not only Teaching Pastor at Summit Church in Florida, but he's also the Executive Director of the Sojourn Network, the church-planting and healthy churches network of which Sound City is now a part. Join us in praying for our friend in advance of his time with us later next month.
OCTOBER 1 | MEXICO MISSION TRIP INTEREST MEETING | SAVE THE DATE
Mark your calendars now for the Sunday, October 1, interest meeting for our 2018 Mission Trip to Mexico. The meeting will take place during the 11am service, and the focus will be our February 11–17 trip to Baja to serve at the mission in Vicente Guerrero. Please prayerfully consider if this is something God may be calling you to pursue, then join us for the October 1 meeting. No registration needed on this one, just plan to join us on October 1 during the 11am service.
OCTOBER 1 | GOSPEL CONVERSATIONS WITH KIDS | SAVE THE DATE
Back in July we hosted this year's first evangelism training event, and now plans are in place for our next equipping event. On Sunday, October 1, from 3pm–5pm at the church offices (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036) we'll be hosting this training event called, Gospel Conversations with Kids — led by our friend Deborah Rowe. As most of you know, evangelism is a significant area of focus for us this year — and this training is one more step in that direction. Save the date, and plan to come and join us to get better equipped to share Jesus with the kids in your life, and pretty much anyone else as well.
This week our Featured Resource is an article by John Piper that hits on another angle of spiritual gifts that we haven't touched on too much in our series, and that's the connection between spiritual gifts and prayer. Enjoy!

KIDS MINISTRY | SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
Our Kids Ministry has a really good problem—there’s tons of kids that show up every single week to learn about Jesus! But the problem we’re facing as we grow, is not always having enough Kids Ministry Team members to serve all the kids showing up each week. That means we could really use your help. We’d invite you to prayerfully consider if God might be asking you to join this awesome team of volunteers committed to helping all the kids of Sound City to increasingly know, love, and live for Jesus. Please prayerfully consider serving in this important ministry, then when you’re ready, fill out the Kids Ministry application.
If you're not currently part of a Community Group, come join us this Sunday for the Connect Group, from 3pm–5pm at the church offices in Lynnwood (4720 200th Street SW, Suite 200, Lynnwood, WA 98036). The Connect Group is our temporary-by-design Community Group that has as its primary goal: helping all who come to find the best possible long-term Community Group fit. It’s also a place to where you’ll meet new people, learn about biblical community, and experience it as well.
CONNECT TO SERVING OPPORTUNITIES
One practical way for you to get connected at Sound City is to prayerfully consider signing up to serve God and his people on a regular basis. Serving is one of the very best ways to build new friendships, get involved, and use your God-given gifts and talents to glorify God and serve his people. For more information about available opportunities, and to sign up with a service team or two, go to: scbc.do/serve and click on Sign Up to Serve.
