Sunday Focus | 9/2-10/7

Hey Sound City families,

Each week our Kids Ministry gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (3rd grade and younger) will be having a ton of fun as they learn from God's Word how to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the next four weeks.

Session 1 | September 2nd, 2018

God Created the World(Genesis 1:1-25)

  • Jesus is Lord over everything. Everything was created by Him and for Him. Jesus holds everything together.

  • In the beginning, God made the world out of nothing. God created the world and everything in it for His glory.

Session 2 | September 9th, 2018

God Created People(Genesis 1:26–2:25)

  • God sent Jesus to show us exactly what God is like. Jesus is exactly like God because He is God.

  • God made people different than anything else He made. God made men and women in His own image for His glory.

Session 3 | September 16th, 2018

Sin Entered the World(Genesis 3:1-24)

  • Sin keeps us from God, but it won’t keep God from us. God sent Jesus to rescue us from sin and bring us back to God.

  • Everything changed after Adam and Eve sinned. Sin separated Adam and Eve from God. God sent them out of the garden.

Session 4 | September 23rd, 2018

Cain and Abel(Genesis 4:1-16, 25-26)

  • Cain was not the Savior. He was a sinner, like Adam and Eve. At the right time, God sent Jesus to rescue sinners.

  • God warned Cain against sin, but Cain did not listen and killed Abel. Cain’s sin separated him from God and people.

Session 5 | September 30th, 2018

Noah and the Ark(Genesis 6:5–9:17)

  • God rescued Noah and his family. Later, there was an even greater rescue! Jesus came to save people from sin.

  • God created people, but they didn’t want to know or obey Him. God punished sin but showed mercy to Noah.

Session 6 | October 7th, 2018

The Tower of Babel(Genesis 11:1-9)

  • God mixed up the people’s language and scattered them. One day, people from every language will worship Jesus.

  • By confusing their words, God made the people do just what He had told them to do. They spread out over the earth.

Big Picture Questions: Why did God create the world?

God created the world and everything in it for His glory.

What is Sin?

Sin is breaking Gods' law, and sin separates people from God.

Key Passage:

Help your child review and memorize this units key passage:

– 1 Corinthians 8:6: “There is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.”

Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next several weeks. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.

For God's glory,

The Kids Ministry Team
