Hey Sound City families,
Each week our Younger Students class gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (4th and 5th grades) will be having a ton of fun as well as grappling with some tough topics and digging into what God's Word teaches about living in today's world. We are excited to help your children to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the next several weeks.

Grapple Question: Why Do Some People Have More Friends?
Kids Learn: What Makes a Real Friend
Dig Into the Bible: 1 Samuel 18:1-4; 19:1-7; Proverbs 18:24
Do we ever really outgrow wanting to be liked and accepted? What seems like a grade-school thing is actually an everybody thing. This week let your kids know that you can relate to their desire for real friendship, and point them to Christ. Share about a time you struggled with not having enough friends, or share about a time you felt Jesus was closer than any other friend.

Grapple Question: Am I Only Suppose To Be Friends With Christians?
Kids Learn: Influencing Non-Christians
Dig Into the Bible: Mark 2:15-17; 2 Corinthians 5:18-20; 6:14-15
Remember the buddy system at the swimming pool when you were a kid? Never swim alone! It’s important to have a friend with you in case you get in over your head and need some help. Explain to your kids that the same rule applies to their social life. It’s a great thing to reach out to non-Christian classmates in an attempt to introduce them to Christ, but they’ll need the support and accountability of a Christian friend to keep them safe in murky waters. Try opening your home and making it a place your kids want to bring friends to. That way your kids can socialize in a safe environment with definite boundaries. (This will call for serious refrigerator stocking.)

Grapple Question: Do I Have To Like Everybody?
Kids Learn: God's Command To Love Everyone
Dig Into the Bible: John 13:34-35; Romans 12:9-21; 1 John 4:19-21
Are you one of those people who always orders the same thing at Chinese restaurants? We’re all prone to specific likes and dislikes—even in relationships. There are people we like instantly and those who are bound to make us crazy. The good news is that God hasn’t called us to be BFFs (Best Friends Forever) with everyone. Help your kids learn to appreciate even the people who annoy them the most by reminding them that each of us is uniquely created by God.
Sunday, July 1
Grapple Question: Why Are My Friends So Mean Sometimes?
Kids Learn: Forgiving Friends Who Hurt Us
Dig Into the Bible: Proverbs 17:9; 18:1, 19; Colossians 3:13
Think of the bully you knew way back when, or recall a time your friend ripped your guts out with one thoughtless comment. Talk to your preteen about that time. Words hurt! There’s little you can do to morph your child’s friends into the kindhearted angels you’d like them to be. That’s why your love, encouragement, hugs, and faithful friendship mean so much. Your acceptance is like a shield that will buffer your child through perilous pubescence.
Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next several weeks. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.
For God's glory,
The Kids Ministry Team
