What is Sound City Kids?
Sound City's Kids Ministry is where kids go during the 9am and 11am adult worship services each Sunday in order to grow in knowing, loving, and living for Jesus.
Each week, kids ages 3 months to 5th grade gather together in a safe, age-appropriate setting along with an awesome team of background-checked volunteers to learn more about God and his great plan for our lives through our curriculum.
For kids from 3 months to 5th grade, we use the kid’s curriculum from Gospel Project. The Gospel Project takes kids on a Christ-centered journey through Scripture. Over a three-year period, kids discover how the gospel unfolds from Genesis through Revelation.
As the kids grow, so do the classroom activities. Our nursery includes a very short story-time. In our 16 months-2 years class, we add some simple songs and coloring pages. In our 3-year-old class, there is a little bit longer story-time and some additional activities. Our Pre-K class adds a short video, and a time of live musical worship, plus an added emphasis on scripture memorization. Each Sunday, the kindergarten to 3rd grade classes gather to spend part of their time engaging in a large-group teaching time and a time of interactive musical worship. Then, they return to their age-specific classrooms for small-group discussion and other learning activities.
Kids in 4th and 5th grades, will participate in our Younger Students class. This class is specifically designed to help kids transition from Kids Ministry to our Student Ministry (6th–12th grades). We are grateful for the ways in which the Lord is using this class to bridge the gap in these two ministries, by building relationships that will continue throughout their teen years. In class, they will grapple with questions that help encourage them in their faith and equip them for walking with Jesus in today's world. The Younger Students class is currently only available during the 11am service.
Your first visit!
When you show up, look for signs that point to our Kids Ministry Check-in area, or just ask anyone wearing an "I Can Help" or “Sound City Kids” lanyard and they'll get you pointed in the right direction.
The first time you join us it will take a little extra time to get your kid's information entered into our systems and then through the check-in process that helps us keep your kids safe and accounted for every time they join us. That first time with us, you'll want to be ready to share the following personal information: family members' names, children’s names and birthdates, address, phone number, and any special instructions (allergies, special needs) for your child.
So, come a little early that first time, and we'll have folks available to help you through the first visit process. Each week after, you'll breeze through the self-check-in process within a minute or two, and you'll be on your way to drop off your kids at their classrooms and head over to the main auditorium to attend the adult worship service.
How check-in works
You may check in your child at any available station in the Sound City Kids check-in area. After finding your child’s name in the database, the printers will create matching identification stickers for you that are exclusive to your family and your visit. Your child will wear one of the stickers, while you keep the matching sticker with you during the service. After the service, you will return to the Kids Ministry area where you'll need to show your matching sticker to the security team member. Then, you'll need to show your sticker again to the teacher in your child’s classroom in order for your child to be released back to you.
In the event that we need to contact you during the service, we'll display your child's number and classroom on the overhead screen in service. Please be attentive when a paging number is displayed on the screens, so you can exit the auditorium and return to your child's classroom should you be paged by the Kids Ministry team (don't forget your sticker).
Throughout the week
At the end of each month we post ministry specific updates to our blog highlighting the main point of the lessons and a key scripture for the upcoming month. These can be used throughout the week for family devotionals to help keep kids and parents in sync and to help cement the lessons they’re learning deep in their hearts and minds. You can also view just the posts related to our Kids Ministry and Student Ministry by clicking Parent Resources here. This blog is meant to be a helpful tool to encourage you with additional tips for family devotional times, and to share relevant church and Kids Ministry related news and opportunities with you.
Our great desire in Sound City Kids is to partner with you––the parents––in encouraging your children to all increasingly know, love, and live for Jesus! We hope and pray you'll find these resources to be helpful in that regard.
What we value
The Bible is the most amazing book ever written! We strive to bring its stories to life through activities and discussions that keep children engaged. We want all children to love God’s word and understand the value of applying it to their lives. Our Gospel Project for Kids curriculum is the centerpiece of our strategy for Christ-centered teaching.
Relationships of grace
We value children’s relationships within their classes, with their leaders and with one another. In addition to the biblical teaching kids receive each week, our team members also model and give instruction to the children that encourages godly character, showing respect to one another and to leaders, making good choices, encouraging each other, and helping one another.
Every child’s name tag sticker is matched to a parent-identification number, every volunteer Kids Ministry team member is also screened with an interview and a federal background check, and every hallway is monitored by security personnel.
Learning to know, love, and live for Jesus should be fun! We value this reality, and we work hard to create fun age-appropriate ways for all Sound City kiddos to learn about Jesus through interactive teaching, games, activities, crafts, and musical worship and singing.
Come join us this Sunday when we gather again to learn to know, love and live for Jesus!
