Parent Resources: Kids Ministry | March 2019

Hey Sound City families,

Each week our Kids Ministry gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. We strive to go beyond childcare and teaching Bible stories to really help the kids learn to engage in Biblical community. The Kids Ministry leadership team and large group leaders have been specifically praying that the kids will know the depth of Jesus’ love for them and will have a solid theological foundation to carry with them into adolescence and adulthood. Over the past month, we have seen some beautiful answers to those prayers. In January we took some time to pray as a group with the K-3rd graders. We were so touched to hear their thankful, heartfelt prayers as they genuinely spoke to their Savior.

Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (3rd grade and younger) will be having a ton of fun as they learn from God's Word how to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the next few weeks.

Session 1 | March 3rd, 2019

“Joshua and Caleb” (Numbers 13:1 –14:38)

  • Joshua was imperfect but trusted God. He reminds us of Jesus, who is perfect and trusted God to save people from sin.

  • Only Caleb and Joshua trusted God to give His people the promised land. None of that generation would enter but them.

Session 2 | March 10th, 2019

“The Bronze Snake” (Numbers 20:1-20; 21:4-9)

  • Israel looked at the snake on the pole to live. Anyone who looks to Jesus on the cross and trusts in Him will live.

  • The people grumbled so God sent snakes to punish them. He also provided a way to be healed that points us to Jesus.

Session 3 | March 17th, 2019

“The Promised Land and Jericho” (Exodus 35:4–40:38)

  • God led His people into the land. Jesus defeats His enemies and leads believers into eternity.

  • God fought for His people in the defeat of Jericho. It was clear from the start that God would conquer the land.

Session 4 | March 24th, 2019

“Achan’s Sin and the Defeat of Ai” (Joshua 7-8)

  • Achan died for his sin. We deserve to die too. When we trust in Jesus, we are forgiven and saved from spiritual death.

  • Because of Achan’s sin, Israel was defeated at Ai. Once Achan’s sin was dealt with, God won the victory over Ai.

Session 5 | March 31st, 2019

“Joshua’s Final Encouragement” (Joshua 23:1-24:28)

  • Joshua left a legacy of obedience to God. Jesus left a legacy too: to make disciples of all nations.

  • At the end of Joshua’s life, he called on the people of Israel to choose to love and obey God fully.

Big Picture Question: Whom can we trust?

We can trust God to take care of us.

Key Passage:

Help your child review and memorize this units key passage:

– Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Serving Opportunities:

We are so blessed to have a constantly growing kids ministry and to have the privilege of teaching these kids the Gospel. We have a few opportunities to get involved in the month of March:

-Set up help: Do you want to help out in Kids Ministry but would prefer to serve with adults? Come help us set up! We have several 12-16 year olds that show up every Sunday at 7 am to help prepare the classrooms (rather than sleeping in!!) Every first Sunday we try to give our faithful youth volunteers a week off, but we definitely feel their absence. Set up simply involves arriving by 7:00 am, moving tables and chairs, setting up classroom walls, and distributing classroom supplies. You’re done by 8:00 am AND you get free breakfast and the chance to pray with other volunteers before the service starts. That’s it! If you are interested in joining the setup team you can email Jenn Ashby at

-Teachers for the 1s and 2s class at the 9:00 service: Do you love cuddling and playing with kiddos but dread preparing a lesson? Come love on our 1 and 2 year olds! We need consistent (at least 2x/month) volunteers in this class. They have a simple Bible story and game, lots of toys, and (the best part) snack time! Teachers for the 9:00 class arrive at 8:30 am to pray with the other teachers and are done by 10:30.

-Teachers for the 3s class at the 11:00 service: 3 is such a precious age and serving in this class gives you the chance to watch toddlers become little followers of Jesus. You get to lead them in prayer, songs, games and Bible stories designed for their age group. Many of these kids will pray out loud for the first time while in this class. What an honor to be a part of that! You also get the chance to start building relationships with these little ones. We need consistent teachers in the 11:00 class for this age group.

If you are interested in serving in EITHER the 1s and 2s class OR the 3s class, fill out the Kids Ministry Application at

Wish List:

We have added a few more items to our wish list on Amazon! If you feel called to serve the kids in this way, you can follow this link to have these items sent to the church offices:

Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next month. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.

For God's glory,

The Kids Ministry Team
