Parent Resources: Kids Ministry | April 2019

Hey Sound City families,

Each week our Kids Ministry gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. In the month of March, we had a great time of learning about unity with believers across the globe when Irene from Heed Uganda visited us. Along with sharing testimonies in “big church,” she taught the K-3rd graders a song in Ugandan. The kids loved learning how to sing in Ugandan and were all very engaged. They now all know how to say, “Jesus Loves Me” in another language!

Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (3rd grade and younger) will be having a ton of fun as they learn from God's Word how to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the next few weeks.

April is an unusual month because of Easter and because of how the units lined up with the month, so let us know if you have questions! For the first two weeks of April, we will be doing a miniature unit (Unit 8) on the Triumphal Entry, Holy Week, Passover, the crucifixion and the resurrection. On Easter Sunday, we will be having a family-style service so there will only be Kids Ministry for ages 0-4 years old. We won’t have our usual curriculum on that day because of this. On April 28th, we will begin Unit 9.

Unit 8, Session 1 | April 7th, 2019

“Jesus’ Triumphal Entry” (Matthew 21:1-17; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-19)

  • During the triumphal entry the people welcomed Jesus as King. One day Jesus will

return to earth as King over all.

  • At the triumphal entry, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey while the people worshipped him.

Unit 8, Session 2 | April 14th, 2019

“Jesus’ Crucifixion and Resurrection” (Matthew 26:36–28:10; John 18:1–20:18)

  • God was pleased with Jesus’ sacrifice and raised Jesus from the dead. We are forgiven

    only through Jesus.

  • Jesus was crucified and was buried. On the third day, He rose again defeating death

and giving life to His own.

Session | April 21st, 2019

Easter Sunday, no official Kids Ministry

Unit 9, Session 1 | April 28th, 2019

“The First Judges” (Judges 3:7-31)

  • The judges saved people from the consequences of sin but God’s plan was for Jesus to

    save people from sin forever.

  • When God’s people sinned and were disciplined, they cried out for a deliverer. God sent

    them leaders called judges.

Big Picture Question Unit 9: How does God accomplish His plan?

God uses people for His glory and our good.

Serving Opportunities:

We are so blessed to have a constantly growing kids ministry and to have the privilege of teaching these kids the Gospel. We have a few opportunities to get involved in the month of April:

-Set up help: Do you want to help out in Kids Ministry but would prefer to serve with adults? Come help us set up! We have several 12-16 year olds that show up every Sunday at 7 am to help prepare the classrooms (rather than sleeping in!!) Every first Sunday we try to give our faithful youth volunteers a week off, but we definitely feel their absence. Set up simply involves arriving by 7:00 am, moving tables and chairs, setting up classroom walls, and distributing classroom supplies. You’re done by 8:00 am AND you get free breakfast and the chance to pray with other volunteers before the service starts. That’s it! If you are interested in joining the setup team you can email Jenn Ashby at

-Teachers for the 1s and 2s class at the 9:00 service: Do you love cuddling and playing with kiddos but dread preparing a lesson? Come love on our 1 and 2 year olds! We need consistent (at least 2x/month) volunteers in this class. They have a simple Bible story and game, lots of toys, and (the best part) snack time! Teachers for the 9:00 class arrive at 8:30 am to pray with the other teachers and are done by 10:30.

-Teachers for the 3s class at the 11:00 service: 3 is such a precious age and serving in this class gives you the chance to watch toddlers become little followers of Jesus. You get to lead them in prayer, songs, games and Bible stories designed for their age group. Many of these kids will pray out loud for the first time while in this class. What an honor to be a part of that! You also get the chance to start building relationships with these little ones. We need consistent teachers in the 11:00 class for this age group.

If you are interested in serving in EITHER the 1s and 2s class OR the 3s class, fill out the Kids Ministry Application at

Wish List:

We have added a few more items to our wish list on Amazon! If you feel called to serve the kids in this way, you can follow this link to have these items sent to the church offices:

Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next month. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.

For God's glory,

The Kids Ministry Team
