Parent Resources: Kids Ministry | June 2019

Hello Sound City Families,

Each week our Kids Ministry gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. In the month of May, we saw lots of growth in Kids Ministry. We had near-record numbers of kids on Mother’s Day, and we also dedicated 10 new babies to the Lord! Praise God for these young lives and the opportunity to share His love with them.

This month we wanted to share a few pieces of information with you. The first is that we have instated a new policy about the tables, chairs, and partitions in the foyer at Lynnwood High School. We had a little boy fall off a partition and narrowly avoid a concussion. We are so thankful that he is okay. We love our kids here at Sound City and want them to be safe, so we are asking all parents and regular attenders to help by enforcing a “no kids climbing on partitions, chairs or tables” policy. We know it can be tough to keep kids from climbing, but their safety is worth any inconvenience that may cause.

Also, we have a Praise and Prayer service coming up on July 7th. On this day there won’t be a formal sermon. We will have extra time for music and prayer. We would like to include our K—5th graders in this time, so there will only be Kids Ministry available for ages 3 months-4 years old. We believe it is important for our kids to see us worshipping God and to be included in our corporate times of worship from time to time.

Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (3rd grade and younger) will be having a ton of fun as they learn from God's Word how to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the month of June as we continue in Units 9 and 10.

Unit 9, Session 6 | June 2nd, 2019

Eli and Boy Samuel” (1 Samuel 1–3)

  • Samuel used God’s words to tell the people what God is like. Jesus showed the world what God is like.

  • God called Samuel to give a message to Eli and the people of Israel. Samuel would become the last Old Testament judge.

Unit 10, Session 1 | June 9th, 2019

“Israel Demanded a King” (1 Samuel 8–10)

  • Saul was an imperfect king, but Jesus is the perfect king God wanted to give His people.

  • Israel demanded an earthly king, so God warned them about the consequences of their request and then gave them Saul.

Unit 10, Session 2 | June 16th, 2019

“God Rejected Saul as King” (1 Samuel 13:1-14; 15:1-35)

  • Saul made a sacrifice he couldn’t make and was rejected. Jesus made a sacrifice only He could make and was accepted.

  • King Saul sinned by giving a sacrifice that only the priest was allowed to give. God rejected Saul as king.

Unit 10, Sessions 3-4 | June 23rd, 2019

“David was Anointed, Fought Goliath, and Befriended Jonathan” (1 Samuel 16-20)

  • God gave David power to defeat Goliath. In the same way, Jesus showed His power by defeating death and saving sinners.

  • David and Jonathan’s friendship points to our friendship with Jesus. He showed His love by dying to save us from sin.

Unit 10, Session 5 | June 30th, 2019

“God Made a Covenant with David” (2 Samuel 7)

  • King Jesus is from David’s family and rules forever.

  • God made a covenant with David that every future king of Israel, including Jesus, would come from his family.

Key Passage Unit 10:

Help your child review and memorize this units key passage:

– Psalm 47:7-8: For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne..”

Big Picture Question Unit 10:

Who is our King? Jesus is our King forever, and He rules over the world.

Serving Opportunities:

We are so blessed to have a constantly growing kids ministry and to have the privilege of teaching these kids the Gospel. We have a few opportunities to get involved in the month of April:

-Set up help: Do you want to help out in Kids Ministry but would prefer to serve with adults? Come help us set up! We have several 12-16 year olds that show up every Sunday at 7am to help prepare the classrooms (rather than sleeping in!). Every first Sunday we try to give our faithful youth volunteers a week off, but we definitely feel their absence. Set up simply involves arriving by 7am, moving tables and chairs, setting up classroom walls, and distributing classroom supplies. You’re done by 8am, get free breakfast, and the chance to pray with other volunteers before the service starts. That’s it! If you are interested in joining the setup team you can email Jenn Ashby at

-Teachers for the 1s and 2s class at the 9:00 service: Do you love cuddling and playing with kiddos but dread preparing a lesson? Come love on our 1 and 2 year olds! We need consistent (at least 2x/month) volunteers in this class. They have a simple Bible story and game, lots of toys, and (the best part) snack time! Teachers for the 9:00 class arrive at 8:30am to pray with the other teachers and are done by 10:30.

-Teachers for the 3s class at the 11:00 service: 3 is such a precious age and serving in this class gives you the chance to watch toddlers become little followers of Jesus. You get to lead them in prayer, songs, games and Bible stories designed for their age group. Many of these kids will pray out loud for the first time while in this class. What an honor to be a part of that! You also get the chance to start building relationships with these little ones. We need consistent teachers in the 11:00 class for this age group.

If you are interested in serving in EITHER the 1s and 2s class OR the 3s class, fill out the Kids Ministry Application at

Wish List:

We have added a few more items to our wish list on Amazon! If you feel called to serve the kids in this way, you can follow this link to have these items sent to the church offices:

Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next month. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.

For God's glory,

The Kids Ministry Team
