Parent Resources: Kids Ministry | July 2019

Hello Sound City Families,

Each week our Kids Ministry gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. In the month of May, we saw lots of growth in Kids Ministry. We had near-record numbers of kids on Mother’s Day, and we also dedicated 10 new babies to the Lord! Praise God for these young lives and the opportunity to share His love with them.

During the month of June, we had some more really sweet prayers come from our kids. We encourage the kids to just talk to God in prayer and it’s inspiring to see what comes out of their hearts. Some examples of prayers we heard were, “Thank you for my teachers and my friends and my mom and dad and my baby Rudy,” and, “Please help Pastor Shane to get better so that he can come back and be together with us,” and of course, “please give us a good time and let us have snack soon.” We love seeing these little ones come before God exactly as they are, and in complete trust.

Remember, we have a Praise and Prayer service coming up on July 7th. On this day there won’t be a formal sermon. We will have extra time for music and prayer. We would like to include our K—5th graders in this time, so there will only be Kids Ministry available for ages 3 months-4 years old. We believe it is important for our kids to see us worshipping God and to be included in our corporate times of worship from time to time.

Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (3rd grade and younger) will be having a ton of fun as they learn from God's Word how to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the month of June as we continue in Units 10 and 11.

Prayer and Praise Service | July 7th, 2019

No official curriculum today!

  • Kids ages 5 and older will be in the service with their parents.

  • Kids ages 0-4 will have kids min in the Little Disciples Hallway (farthest from the lobby and kitchen)

Unit 10, Session 6 | July 14th, 2019

“David Sinned and Was Restored” (2 Samuel 11:1-12:14; Psalm 51)

  • David sinned and at first tried to cover up his sin. Later, he was confronted and repented, and God forgave him.

  • Like David, when we sin, we can receive God’s forgiveness because Jesus paid for our sin.

Unit 11, Sessions 1-2 | July 21st, 2019

“Solomon Asked for Wisdom/Wisdom for Gods’ people” (1 Kings 2:1-12; 3:1-15, Proverbs 1:1-7, 3:1-12, 4:10-19)

  • God allowed Solomon to ask for anything he wanted and Solomon asked for wisdom. God gave him wisdom to lead Israel.

  • The Book of Proverbs teaches that wisdom comes from God. God made the world and knows how it works best.

Unit 11, Session 3 | July 28th, 2019

“Solomon Built the Temple” (1 Kings 6-8)

  • Only priests could approach God in the temple at certain times. Jesus’ death and resurrection brought people to God.

  • Solomon obeyed God and built a temple where God would dwell with His people and they could worship Him.

Key Passage Unit 11:

Help your child review and memorize this units key passage:

– Proverbs 2:6: “The Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Big Picture Question Unit 11:

Where does wisdom comes from? Wisdom comes from God through his Word.

Serving Opportunities:

We are so blessed to have a constantly growing Kids Ministry and to have the privilege of teaching these kids the Gospel. We have a few opportunities to get involved in the month of April:

-Set up help: Do you want to help out in Kids Ministry but would prefer to serve with adults? Come help us set up! We have several 12-16 year olds that show up every Sunday at 7am to help prepare the classrooms (rather than sleeping in!). Every first Sunday we try to give our faithful youth volunteers a week off, but we definitely feel their absence. Set up simply involves arriving by 7am, moving tables and chairs, setting up classroom walls, and distributing classroom supplies. You’re done by 8am, get free breakfast, and the chance to pray with other volunteers before the service starts. That’s it! If you are interested in joining the setup team you can email Jenn Ashby at

-Teachers for the 1s and 2s class at the 9:00 service: Do you love cuddling and playing with kiddos but dread preparing a lesson? Come love on our 1 and 2 year olds! We need consistent (at least 2x/month) volunteers in this class. They have a simple Bible story and game, lots of toys, and (the best part) snack time! Teachers for the 9:00 class arrive at 8:30am to pray with the other teachers and are done by 10:30.

-Teachers for the 3s class at the 11:00 service: 3 is such a precious age and serving in this class gives you the chance to watch toddlers become little followers of Jesus. You get to lead them in prayer, songs, games and Bible stories designed for their age group. Many of these kids will pray out loud for the first time while in this class. What an honor to be a part of that! You also get the chance to start building relationships with these little ones. We need consistent teachers in the 11:00 class for this age group.

If you are interested in serving in EITHER the 1s and 2s class OR the 3s class, fill out the Kids Ministry Application at

Wish List:

We have added a few more items to our wish list on Amazon! If you feel called to serve the kids in this way, you can follow this link to have these items sent to the church offices:

Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next month. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.

For God's glory,

The Kids Ministry Team
