Hello Sound City Families,
Each week our Kids Ministry gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Summer often proves to be a challenging time because many volunteers are out of town, sometimes we have more visitors, and it can be tricky scheduling enough volunteers to accommodate the need. Families at Sound City have been blessed by how many volunteers have stepped up to keep Kids Ministry running smoothly by switching classes (sometimes at a moment’s notice), serving on extra weeks, and stepping in to join the Kids Ministry Team when they hadn’t previously been serving.
On August 25th, we will be celebrating the last day for most kids in in their current class (some of the older classes cover 2 years, so for example a child moving from Kindergarten to 1st grade would stay in the same class). As a reminder, our classes are grade-based, which means that your child will stay in the same class through the entire school year. September 1st will be the first day in new classes, so we like to celebrate on August 25th with snacks and balloons. Communication about your child’s new class will be emailed to you in August.
Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (3rd grade and younger) will have a ton of fun as they learn from God's Word how to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the month of August as we continue in Units 11 and 12.
Unit 11, Session 4 | August 4th, 2019
“Solomon’s Sin Divided the Kingdom” (1 Kings 11-12)
King Solomon’s sin divided God’s people, but King Jesus’ sacrifice brought His people back together again.
King Solomon’s sin caused the people of Israel to divide into two kingdoms when his son became king.
Unit 12, Session 1 | August 11th, 2019
“Solomon Thought about Life” (Ecclesiastes 1:1-11)
King Solomon thought about the purpose of life and wrote about it in the Book of Ecclesiastes.
God created everything, and He gives everything a purpose. Jesus gives us purpose for living.
Unit 12, Session 2 | August 18th, 2019
“Job” (Job 1–42)
Job suffered and cried out for a Mediator who could bring him to God. God answered that cry when He sent Jesus.
Jesus is our Mediator who suffered to bring us to God.
Unit 12, Session 3 | August 25th, 2019
“Praises of God’s People” (Psalms 1, 100, 110)
The Book of Psalms is a collection of songs people wrote to praise God because of who He is.
In the Old Testament people prayed to God through psalms. God answered their prayers when He sent His Son, Jesus.
Key Passage Unit 12:
Help your child review and memorize this unit’s key passage:
– Psalm 100:5 “The Lord is good his steadfast love endures forever.”
Big Picture Question Unit 12:
Why can we trust God? Everything God does is for His glory and our good.
We are so blessed to have a constantly growing Kids Ministry and to have the privilege of teaching these kids the Gospel. We have a few opportunities to get involved:
-Teachers for the 1s and 2s class at the 11:00 service: Do you love cuddling and playing with kiddos but dread preparing a lesson? Come love on our 1 and 2- year olds! We need consistent (at least 2x/month) volunteers in this class. They have a simple Bible story and game, lots of toys, and (the best part) snack time!
-Teachers for the 3s class at the 11:00 service: 3 is such a precious age and serving in this class gives you the chance to watch toddlers become little followers of Jesus. You get to lead them in prayer, songs, games and Bible stories designed for their age group. Many of these kids will pray out loud for the first time while in this class. What an honor to be a part of that! You also get the chance to start building relationships with these little ones. We need consistent teachers in the 11:00 class for this age group.
-Teachers for our Younger Students class in the 11:00 service: This class is for 4th-5th graders and provides more of an opportunity for teaching a lesson. We do follow a curriculum, but it is separate from what the rest of Kids Ministry does. This class is designed to prepare kids for our Student Ministry by helping them learn to actively listen to each other, think critically, and share what they are dealing with in their own lives.
If you are interested in serving in EITHER the 1s and 2s class, the 3s class, OR the Younger Students class, fill out the Kids Ministry Application at scbc.do/kidsapp.
We have added a few more items to our wish list on Amazon! If you feel called to serve the kids in this way, you can follow this link to have these items sent to the church offices: http://a.co/iQdWuNy.
Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next month. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.
For God's glory,
The Kids Ministry Team
