Hello Sound City Families,
Each week our Kids Ministry gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. As you know, starting September 1st, kids will be in their new classrooms for the year. We handed out individualized letters over the past few weeks, but with summer vacations we know that some of you didn’t receive your letters. Please contact the Kids Ministry Leadership Team (Hannah Colvin, Jenn Ashby, Stephanie Patrick, Brittany Hackett, Shane Patrick) or your service lead (Kelsie Braceros for the 9:00 and Stephanie Patrick for the 11:00) if you have questions about which class your child should be in. Also, please be talking with your kids about this upcoming change (possibly a new room, new teachers, new routines, and maybe even some new friends). We will be talking about these changes in class, but it will help them to hear from you as well. As many of you parents know, changes in routine can be hard on kids. We anticipate this and will be encouraging and communicating with them on our end, and want to do everything we can to put them at ease.
Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (3rd grade and younger) will have a ton of fun as they learn from God's Word how to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the month of September as we continue in Unit 13.
Unit 13, Session 1 | September 1st, 2019
“Elijah Confronted Evil Ahab” (1 Kings 18)
Baal did not answer his prophets because he is not real, but God burned up His altar to show He is the one true God.
Baal’s prophets cut themselves to show their love but the one true God showed His love by
sending Jesus to die for us.
Unit 13, Session 2 | September 8th, 2019
“Elijah Ran from Jezebel” (1 Kings 19)
After the contest with Baal’s prophets, Elijah ran for his life from Jezebel and God spoke to him in a quiet whisper.
Elijah’s life points to Jesus, the greatest Prophet, who was hated and killed for sharing and
teaching God’s Word.
Unit 13, Session 3 | September 15th, 2019
“Elisha and Naaman” (2 Kings 5)
Naaman had a skin disease that went away when he trusted God’s instruction from Elisha and washed in the river.
All have a sin problem that leads to death and need a Healer. When we trust Jesus, God forgives our sin and heals us.
Unit 13, Session 4 | September 22nd, 2019
“God Called Isaiah” (Isaiah 6)
Isaiah had a vision of God’s glory and realized his own sin. God forgave Isaiah’s sin and gave
him a message to share.
Like Isaiah, when we see how holy God is, we see how sinful we are. God sent His Son, Jesus,
to pay for our sin.
Unit 13, Session 5 | September 29th, 2019
“Isaiah Preached About the Messiah” (Isaiah 53)
700 years before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah wrote that the Messiah would die for our sin.
Jesus is the Suffering Servant who died so that those who trust in Him would be forgiven.
Key Passage Unit 13:
Help your child review and memorize this unit’s key passage:
– Hebrews 1:1-2: “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his son.”
Big Picture Question Unit 13:
How many gods are there? There is one true God who alone deserves worship.
We are so blessed to have a constantly growing Kids Ministry and to have the privilege of teaching these kids the Gospel. We have a few opportunities to get involved:
-Teachers for the 1s and 2s class at the 11:00 service: Do you love cuddling and playing with kiddos but dread preparing a lesson? Come love on our 1 and 2- year olds! We need consistent (at least 2x/month) volunteers in this class. They have a simple Bible story and game, lots of toys, and (the best part) snack time!
-Teachers for the 3s class at the 11:00 service: 3 is such a precious age and serving in this class gives you the chance to watch toddlers become little followers of Jesus. You get to lead them in prayer, songs, games and Bible stories designed for their age group. Many of these kids will pray out loud for the first time while in this class. What an honor to be a part of that! You also get the chance to start building relationships with these little ones. We need consistent teachers in the 11:00 class for this age group.
-Teachers for our Younger Students class in the 11:00 service: This class is for 4th-5th graders and provides more of an opportunity for teaching a lesson. We do follow a curriculum, but it is separate from what the rest of Kids Ministry does. This class is designed to prepare kids for our Student Ministry by helping them learn to actively listen to each other, think critically, and share what they are dealing with in their own lives.
If you are interested in serving in EITHER the 1s and 2s class, the 3s class, OR the Younger Students class, fill out the Kids Ministry Application at scbc.do/kidsapp.
We have added a few more items to our wish list on Amazon! If you feel called to serve the kids in this way, you can follow this link to have these items sent to the church offices: http://a.co/iQdWuNy.
Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next month. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.
For God's glory,
The Kids Ministry Team
