Hello Sound City Families,
Each week our Kids Ministry gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. September was a fun, exciting month of adjusting to new classrooms. We have been so proud of the kids throughout this process. we had some tears ad worries, but from those we were able to have good conversations and show love to the kids. We then had the chance to see them conquer their fears and become comfortable in their new classes. it was also beautiful to see how kids were comforted and supported by their peers in those times.
In the month of October, we will be getting new check-in equipment and software. You all have received a separate email about this change. The new equipment will be a kiosk with iPads on 3 sides, so you will notice right way when it’s in use. We will also begin using Planning Center, instead of Church Community Builder. Our experience so far is that Planning Center is much more user friendly, so we are hoping that you will all notice an improvement. Also, this is the perfect time to update your profile information (Address, birthdays, allergies, etc) in Planning Center. You will receive an additional email communication with your current profile information, and you will be able to contact the Kids Ministry team with any changes that need to be made.
Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (3rd grade and younger) will have a ton of fun as they learn from God's Word how to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the month of September as we continue in Units 13 and 14.
Unit 13, Session 6 | October 6th, 2019
“Hezekiah, Judah’s Faithful King” (2 Kings 18–19)
Hezekiah prayed that God would save His people from their enemies so everyone would know
He is the one true God.
Hezekiah prayed for God to rescue Judah. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus rescued
people from sin and death.
Unit 14, Session 1 | October 13, 2019
“Hosea, Prophet to Israel” (Hosea 1-14)
God called Hosea to marry an unfaithful woman to show the people what their relationship with
Him was like.
God’s people are unfaithful and love other things more than God but God still loves us, proven by His gift of Jesus.
Unit 14, Session 2 | October 20, 2019
“Jonah, Prophet to Nineveh” (Jonah 1-4)
God called Jonah to go to his enemies and call them to turn away from their sin, but Jonah
God sent Jesus to His enemies to call us to repentance. Jesus obeyed and died on the cross to
rescue us from sin.
Unit 14, Session 3 | October 27, 2019
“Joel, Prophet to Judah” (Joel 1-3)
Joel warned about the Day of the Lord when God will judge His enemies, free His people and
make the world right again.
Those who trust in Jesus will escape God’s punishment. Jesus was punished in our place and we share His righteousness.
Key Passage Unit 14:
Help your child review and memorize this unit’s key passage:
– Joel 2:13: “Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful.”
Big Picture Question Unit 14:
What is God like? God is slow to anger, merciful, and loving.
We are so blessed to have a constantly growing Kids Ministry and to have the privilege of teaching these kids the Gospel. We have a few opportunities to get involved:
-Teachers for the 1s and 2s class at the 11:00 service: Do you love cuddling and playing with kiddos but dread preparing a lesson? Come love on our 1 and 2- year olds! We need consistent (at least 2x/month) volunteers in this class. They have a simple Bible story and game, lots of toys, and (the best part) snack time!
-Teachers for the 3s class at the 11:00 service: 3 is such a precious age and serving in this class gives you the chance to watch toddlers become little followers of Jesus. You get to lead them in prayer, songs, games and Bible stories designed for their age group. Many of these kids will pray out loud for the first time while in this class. What an honor to be a part of that! You also get the chance to start building relationships with these little ones. We need consistent teachers in the 11:00 class for this age group.
-Teachers for our Younger Students class in the 11:00 service: This class is for 4th-5th graders and provides more of an opportunity for teaching a lesson. We do follow a curriculum, but it is separate from what the rest of Kids Ministry does. This class is designed to prepare kids for our Student Ministry by helping them learn to actively listen to each other, think critically, and share what they are dealing with in their own lives.
If you are interested in serving in EITHER the 1s and 2s class, the 3s class, OR the Younger Students class, fill out the Kids Ministry Application at scbc.do/kidsapp.
We have added a few more items to our wish list on Amazon! If you feel called to serve the kids in this way, you can follow this link to have these items sent to the church offices: http://a.co/iQdWuNy.
Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next month. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.
For God's glory,
The Kids Ministry Team
