Welcome to this month’s Student Ministry Newsletter. It’s our goal to keep you informed and give you all the info you’d need as parents to support and encourage the work the Student Ministry aims to do in helping every student to know, love, and live for Jesus.
Due to all of the snow we received during the month of February, a few of our Wednesday night gatherings were cancelled, and thus our normal schedule has been bumped a bit. Our Tough Topics teaching series will now take place during the final three weeks of March (3/13, 3/20, and 3/27). We eagerly look forward to this time when we’ll be able to provide the students with a biblical lens through which to approach topics such as relationships, pornography, and gender identity. Our prayer is that during this time, students will learn about these topics through a biblical lens, engage openly and honestly, and be able to glean some practical takeaways to apply in their own lives.
Although the snow definitely hampered our ability to meet in February, we are celebrating the fact that during this time, many students reached out to leaders expressing their desire to meet. This indicates to us the degree to which the students value our weekly gatherings. It also speaks to the depth of relationship the students are building with one another as well as with the leaders. It’s pretty cool that they would rather be spending their evening at Students than at home on a day off!
One of our goals for this ministry is for both the students and leaders to develop such a level of unity that they would desire to come and to contribute to one another’s lives for the building of God’s Kingdom. Although we were all bummed to be missing out on this work for the two weeks we had to take off, it is encouraging to see the eagerness our students (and leaders) have to resume our regular meetings!
SAVE THE DATE
Our hope and desire is that all our students are able to participate in every opportunity to grow closer to each other and to Jesus as we serve, play, and worship together. Please make note of the following dates. Also, be sure to check back here as well as the Sound City Students FB page on occasion for event details and updates.
February 20 | Normal Students Gathering
Note that this date was previously scheduled to be our Mid-Winter break, but due to time off for snow, we’ve decided to proceed with meeting on this week.
March 13 | Tough Topics Series - Relationships
Note that this date was previously scheduled to be our Worship Night event but due to snow, we’ve chosen to reschedule this event for a later date and proceed with our Tough Topics series.
March 20 | Tough Topics Series - Pornography
March 27 | Tough Topics Series - Gender Identity
April 10 | No Students: Spring Break
July 10-14 | Summer Camp
Please pray for our students during our Tough Topics series, that they would engage honestly with the perspectives that are presented, and would find much to apply in their own lives.
Pray for protection again the enemy from the various ways he would seek to attack both our students and leaders: through apathy, doubt, sin, shame, and a litany of other ways that he attempts to paralyze us or make us ineffective for the kingdom. Pray we would recognize the attacks and stand firm in Christ in the midst of them.
Pray for our students to be saturated with the gospel and to be witnesses for Jesus amongst their friends and community.
Please pray for the students, the leaders, their families, and the Student Ministry as a whole; that we would seek the Lord above all else and love one another with the love of Christ.
