Parent Resources: Students | May 2019

Welcome to this month’s Student Ministry Newsletter. It’s our goal to keep you informed and give you all the info you’d need as parents to support and encourage the work the Student Ministry aims to do in helping every student to know, love, and live for Jesus.

For the month of May, we as a student ministry are focused on finishing this year strong as we enter the last full month of our 2018-2019 school year! We’ve got lots to look forward to in the summer but in the meantime will continue to open God’s Word and learn about following Jesus and living lives as disciples. This month, our topics will be focusing on how the gospel influences our lives as Christians and leads us to live in loving obedience to God.

This month we’re celebrating God’s continued faithfulness in bringing new students. This time of year typically sees a drop in weekly attendance numbers, but we’ve been encouraged that has not been the case over the past few months, and in fact it has been just the opposite. It has also been encouraging to hear students voice how our Wednesday night gatherings are becoming a focal point of their weeks. Our prayer throughout this year has been that our students and leaders would be unified in Christ and we’ve been blessed to see the Lord answer that prayer in a variety of ways.

We’re also celebrating the successful completion of our Tough Topics Series, despite postponing due to the crazy weather (looking at you, Snowpocalypse). In all seriousness, it has been on our hearts for a long time to do a series like this and it has been such a gift from God to see the students’ openness to share as we’ve walked through the series. Students also gave us ideas for potential “tough topics” in the future, so we look forward to making this a regular part of our student ministry teaching rhythm.

Our hope and desire is that all our students are able to participate in every opportunity to grow closer to each other and to Jesus as we serve, play, and worship together. Please make note of the following dates. Also, be sure to check back here as well as the Sound City Students FB page on occasion for event details and updates.

May 10 | Students Karaoke Night (in lieu of overnight event)

  • This event was a huge hit last year and we’re excited to be doing it again! We’ll be at the Church offices (4720 200th St SW #200, Lynnwood, WA 98036 ) from 7pm - 10pm with a karaoke machine, belting out our favorite songs in front of all our friends. We will have pizza and soda, so please bring $10 to help cover costs. If your student has special dietary issues, please feel free to bring their own pizza!

June 12 | Final Students Gathering of the 2018-’19 School Year

June 22 | Students Pool Party

July 10-14 | Summer Camp

  • Please pray that our students would finish out both the school year and the ministry year strong. Pray that they would be diligent in their schoolwork but would also be pursuing and leaning on relationship with one another for encouragement in their walk with Christ.

  • Pray for us leaders as we begin to plan for summer camp. We deeply desire God to move in both leaders’ and students’ lives but we need the Lord’s blessing and protection in order for that to be a reality.

  • Pray for our students to be saturated with the gospel and to be witnesses for Jesus among their friends and community.

  • Please pray for the students, the leaders, their families, and the Student Ministry as a whole; that we would seek the Lord above all else and love one another with the love of Christ.
