Younger Students Sunday Focus | October 7 - October 28

Hey Sound City families,

Each week our Younger Students class gathers to learn and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Over the next several weeks your child(ren) (4th and 5th grades) will be having a ton of fun as well as grappling with some tough topics and digging into what God's Word teaches about living in today's world. We are excited to help your children to better know, love, and live for Jesus. Below is a breakdown of where we are going over the next several weeks.

Grapple Question: Why Doesn’t Everyone Go To Heaven?

Kids Learn: Sin Seperates Us From God

Dig Into the Bible:  Isaiah 59:1-2; Matthew 7:13-14; Romans 5:20-21; 6:23

Is there a vegetable your kids can’t stand? Or perhaps a chore no one ever wants to do? That’s sort of what God is like with evil—only more so. God simply can’t stand to be in its presence! Anyone who wants to be in God’s presence must be holy as he is holy. They must accept God’s free gift of cleansing forgiveness. This week, spend some time thinking with your preteen about what it means for God to be holy and how that has an impact on your life.

Grapple Question: Why Isn’t “Being Good” Good Enough?

Kids Learn: Good Works Are Not Enough

Dig Into the Bible: Psalm 14:2-3; Isaiah 64:6; Romans 3:21-28; Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 11:6

Most of us probably think we’re pretty good people most of the time—after all, we haven’t murdered anyone lately. But be honest for a moment, and invite your child to join you. How often do you say things you shouldn’t, or think things even worse? It’s clear that we all fall short of God’s ideal for us, all the time. Nobody could ever be that good! It’s only by God’s grace that any of us are made right with God.

Grapple Question: Why Did Jesus Have To Die?

Kids Learn: The Sacrificial System For Forgiveness

Dig Into the Bible: Leviticus 1:1-4; Romans 3:23; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-5; Hebrews 9:22; 10:1-10; 1 Peter 2:22-24

Restful sleep, your career, privacy, romantic vacations, real dinners out, free time, physical fitness, and on some days your mental and emotional stability—these are just a few of the things you may feel you’ve sacrificed for your children. But as real as those sacrifices are, they pale in comparison to the sacrifice that God our Father made for us, his children. God gave up Jesus, who lived on earth as a human, was ridiculed and tortured, and was put to death as a common criminal. Talk with your preteen this week about God’s ultimate sacrifice.

Grapple Question: Why Doesn’t Everyone Just Believe In Jesus?

Kids Learn: The Need To Accept Christ’s Gift

Dig Into the Bible: John 1:6-13; Romans 10:9-13

Your kids may have friends and relatives who don’t believe in Jesus, and that could be disturbing to them. Stress to your preteens the need to pray for these people to accept Jesus. Encourage your children to share their own faith with friends and family. If they get discouraged because friends or family members aren’t changing their views, remind them that most people have to hear about what Jesus has done for us several times before believing—and only God himself can change a person’s heart.

Thank you for taking the time to review what your kids will be learning in church for the next several weeks. Our goal is to partner with you, the parents, in helping every child to know, love, and live for Jesus.

For God's glory,

The Kids Ministry Team
