Rhythms of Grace
Much of evangelicalism has adopted an overly individualistic vision of spiritual formation. When we think about growing in Christ, we think first about personal practices like Bible reading, prayer, silence, and solitude. These practices are essential, but when they become the center of our discipleship, Christianity turns into a personal relationship with Jesus with a dash of community. But the New Testament gives a different picture. When Jesus calls us to himself, he calls us into a new people learning a new way of life together.
At Sound City, our four rhythms are how we seek to embody this shared vision of formation. Our mission is “to raise up wholehearted followers of Jesus,” and as a community, we have identified four rhythms we aspire to orient our lives around that open us up to the grace of God in our lives: Worship Gatherings, Community Groups, Equipping Cohorts, Kingdom Outpost.
Over four weeks, Rhythms of Grace will explore each of these as we ask one central question: What kind of shared life forms us into wholehearted followers of Jesus?
Rather than a four-week advertisement for our church’s programs, this series will cast a vision for a way of life rooted in community and centered on becoming more like Jesus. Each week will naturally invite people to participate in a specific rhythm: attend the Worship Gathering, join a Community Group, participate in an Equipping Cohort, or live as a Kingdom Outpost. But these programs are not the point. They are simply the structures we’ve created to help us embody deeper biblical practices of following Jesus together.
