If it's your first time at Sound City Bible Church, we are so glad to have you. Here are a few questions to help you prepare.
Where do you meet?
Our weekly worship services are held at Lynnwood High School in the Royal Act Theater. After driving into the high school parking lot from North Road, turn right at the "Y" to find the parking lot closest to the theater.
What are the services like?
We have coffee and tea available in the lobby, so you’re welcome to grab a beverage and bring it into the service with you. Note: we want to take good care of the Royal Act Theater, so please make sure that your beverage has a lid.
Our services start with a couple of songs, then we move into a time of teaching from the Bible. As you may have guessed by our name, we highly value the Scriptures. Because of this, the teaching time is a prominent feature of our gatherings, with each sermon being somewhere around 45 minutes long. Some people bring their bibles to read along, some take notes for further study, and some simply sit and listen.
After the teaching, we respond in three primary ways. First, we respond with the giving of tithes and offerings. This is something that we encourage our members to participate in; if you are a guest, there is no expectation that you have to give. Second, we respond through the celebration of Communion or the Lord’s Supper. We practice an “open table” at Sound City, which means that you are welcome to join us at the table if you are Christian, even if this is your first time joining us. If you are not a Christian, we would encourage you to talk with one of our pastors before participating in the Lord’s Supper.
And third, we respond with some more singing, typically three or four songs. We like to sing songs that point us to Jesus and celebrate the gospel, whether that be old hymns or newer songs. As you may have also guessed from our name, we like making a “sound” about Jesus, and music is one important way that we live out this value.
What should I wear?
Our worship services are pretty casual. Some people dress up a bit, while many others simply wear jeans and a t-shirt. Our belief is that God cares much more about the condition of our hearts than our external appearance. If you join us for a service, please feel free to dress however you feel comfortable.
What about children?
At Sound City, we love children! More than just babysitting, we seek to teach our children about Jesus and help them grow to love and follow him. If you have kids, both of our services have children’s ministry (ages three months through 6th grade). If this is your first time joining us, we would recommend that you come ten minutes early or so to get them checked in. If you would rather keep your kids with you for the service, you are more than welcome to do so. Because the stairs in the theater are kind of steep and because there is musical equipment that is accessible from the floor, we highly encourage parents to keep a close eye on their children if they are in the main worship service.
