Celebrating | Potluck and Family Gathering

November 10th, the people of Sound City threw an amazing potluck with a wide variety of dishes, plenty of cheesy potatoes, and only one bag of chips. This time of fellowship was followed by what is normally our bi-annual family gathering—a time of information, looking back, and looking ahead.

This year, there was not family gathering in the spring due to Pastor Shane’s health crisis. We are praising God that he is well and restored to us.

Our fall gathering kicked off with an update on prayer from deacon Jim Lagucik. In January 2019, the elders encouraged us to press into prayer, as God was leading. Prayer has been a theme for us, and in addition to the many prayers for Pastor Shane, Sound City has also rebuilt the Prayer team, held a joint prayer service at Alderwood Community Church this spring, hosted two Night of Prayer services, and sent some of our leaders to the Convergence Conference in September.

The natural thing to do after this update was pray. In small groups around the auditorium, we presented our praises and requests to God. We want to be a people of prayer.

We also received updates from deacon Alejandro Alvarez and the Financial Accountability Team, information about the van fundraiser from Pastor Jamin, and exciting news about Men’s and Women’s discipleship for 2020 from Pastor Shane.

Pastor Kyle shared his passion for mission and outreach with us all. He talked about recent opportunities to serve those in need, and updates from our international ministry partners. At Sound City, one of our values is “every member a missionary.” And while it can sound like a lofty goal, Pastor Kyle urged, “Not all of us are called to cross international borders, but all of us are called to cross the street.”

Pastor Aaron followed up, giving thanks to God for Pastor Shane’s presence at the family gathering, as well as reflecting on God’s faithfulness over the last five years. He gave updates on future plans, and encouraged us to persevere and to press into sharing the love of God, the good news of Jesus Christ.

Would you join us? Let’s pray and thank God for his love that he has lavished on us, for the wealth of opportunities to serve, and that he invites us into relationship through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
