John, a member of Sound City, recently came forward and offered some insights with me on how we as a church can best love and serve people in times of disaster. The conversation was very helpful for me, so I thought it was a good opportunity to share it with our larger church community. Here’s the interview!
If you've been watching the devastation in Texas but haven't known how to help or get involved, you're likely not alone. With so many different relief organizations, non-profits, and government organizations involved, it can be hard to know where to begin. In the video below, Pastor Aaron outlines one specific way that we as a church family can help.
Jesus, though he was and is fully God (John 8:58, Col. 1:15, Heb. 1:3), lived and operated by the power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:1) during his earthly ministry. Because of this, we should not be surprised to see the gifts of the Spirit in operation in Jesus’ life and ministry, even the so-called “ordinary” ones.
This year's theme for camp was truth and grace. Through several gospel-centered teachings, times of worship, devotions, and small groups, God was made much of. The Lord was working in many different ways: reigniting students faith, 3 students meeting and trusting Jesus, and an overwhelming sense of encouragement. I am personally beyond thankful for the way the Lord used the leadership team to love the students and show Christ to them.
This past Sunday, I found myself in a unique situation. Pastor Shane was slated to preach, a group of other folks from the church were leading the music, and my only in-service responsibility was to do the welcome prior to the sermon. I’m not entirely sure where the idea came from—maybe it was the Father’s Day mojo?—but I decided to volunteer in our children’s ministry for both services.
Last Summer, we set up a handful of events designed to give us all a chance as a church family to build new friendships, to deepen existing relationships with God and one another, and to just enjoy some extended times of fellowship together. This Summer we’re excited to do the same thing! From hikes, to a Mariners game, to Fourth of July events, and everywhere in-between, you can see everything we have planned this Summer below!

On Sunday, February 5, in our morning services, we had the chance to hear from members of the mission team who recently returned from Foundation for His Ministry in Vicente Guerrero, Mexico. Foundation for His Ministry is a multi-faceted outreach ministry in the Baja peninsula that hosts a medical clinic, an orphanage, a school, a food distribution center, and many other invaluable resources for the community.
